Light Up All Year
OH<
COME
ALL* YE
FAITHFUL...
As oncci again wo celebrate the joy and triumph
Lights for Chrt-tmas decorations
can be a year-round source of a
more cheerful nx*>d in the home.
Standard light bulbs, varying in
size, shape, color, surfare tex-
ture and light output, enable the
family Christmas decorating ex
pert to come up with a distinctive
setup. After the holidays the bulbs
and cords are used fou*other daily
lighting purjroses.
Five suggestions for decorative
lighting treatments for the holiday
come from John K. Mi:dvl, con-
sultant engineer for light bulb
specialists.
In place of conventional si rings
of tiny colored lights on trees, Mi-
chel suggests (ilobelite shap s of
incandescent bulbs for a more un-
usual treatment These are com-
pletely round, in sizes from 2'A to
5 inch 's ,<od come in clear, red,
blue, gr vn, yellow and glitter fin-
ish.
I'se such light bulbs with a plas-
tic vinyl - electrical cord, called
a zip-cord or |>eed-cord. with safe-
ty rating and with special sockets
for a do-it-your-s-If string of lights.
After the holidays, he notes, use
them for chandeii.irs, wall
s. ounces, overhead ceiling fixtures
in halls nr playrooms or with -nme
of tin* new d.-soralor models of
hare-bulb table lamps which elimi-
nat.- the lampshade and focus at-
t. ntmn on the decorative bulb
Another sugg.-stlon is to attach a
string of flanvscent bulbs to
wreaths hung from the door to
wall These give the effect of a
gaslight flam .- but or • available
in while, red, green, blu •, yellow
or gold. They come in various
waltag.-s hut Michel recommends
the 5-watt size for this purpose
A third suggestion i- the "candle-
in-the-window” effect. Attach to
each pane of mullioned window one
1-watt Flicker - Flamencent bulb.
These tiny lights appear, through
a moving filament effect, to flicker
like a glowing candle.
Another thought is to give plants
on a tabletop, atop a buffet or
in arrangements a "light touch”
by u s I n g some 'of the colorful
Flame-scent bulbs set into the plants
or arranged on branches of I;
plants.
F'or the outdoors, Michel,-sin-dai-
ly likes a tree of light. Make this
by attaching evergrivn cuttings
and shapes made from twr-ting
wire coat hangers to a wooden

up a graduated serie-, of |M»sts for
(thristmas trees. String with color-
ed but clear - transparent flame-
shaped bulbs These create a flame
effect in red, blue, gnt-r, gold
and yellow.
