Brooks - Huff Exchange Vows
Sherri LeAnn Brooks and Jonathan Todd Huff exchanged wedding vows
Saturday, Aug. 3, 1996, at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in
Tulia. The double ring ceremony was officiated by Rev. Steven R. Brooks of
Wilmore, Ky., brother of the bride. Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Brooks of Tulia. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Huff of Lewiston, Idaho are parents of
the groom.
The church was decorated with marble columns and votive candles adorned
with ivy. A large floral arrangement of fuchsia, hot pink and deep blue flowers
formed the backdrop for the ceremony. The aisle was draped with tulle and
adorned with needlepoint ivy and stargazer lilies.
Prenuptial music, played by Peggie Bush, included "Moonlight Sonata"
and "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring," By the music of "Trumpet Voluntary," the
bride was escorted down the aisle and given in marriage by her father. She
wore a gown of candlelight satin overlaid with lace, embellished with pearls
and opalescent sequins. It was fashioned with long sleeves, puffed at the
shoulders with lace over the hands, a-fitted bodice with a V-neck, and
mermaid hem line accented with a large bow lined in pearls at the back. The
long train with lace cutouts, accented with pearls and sequins, fell from the
bow.
For something old, she wore her mother’s veil which had been redesigned
into a wide head band, accented with pearls and sequins. She carried a cascade
bouquet of stargazer lilies, and hot pink and ivory roses adorned with long
runners of needlepoint ivy. For something blue, she wore the traditional garter
made by family friend Cheryl Swinbum, and borrowed her maternal
grandmother's wedding band and her fraternal grandmother's 50th wedding
anniversary ruby band. In addition, she borrowed from the mother of the
groom her childhood Bible, placed open to I Corinthians 13:4-6 at the knccler.
Crissi Brooks of Tulia, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids
were Sandy Hawthorn Ethridge of San Angelo, Angela Cobb of Dallas, and
Alayna Brooks, sister-in-law of the bride, of Wilmore, Ky. They wore long
two piece dresses of fuchsia satin, made by the bride, and carried arm
bouquets of fuchsia gladiolas, hot pink roses, blue iris, purple dendrobiums
orchid sprays, and stargazer lilies.
The best man was the groom's father, "Chuck" Huff. Groomsmen were John
Ravetta of Dallas, Curt Hinkle of Euless, cousin of the bride, and John
Mayfield of Dallas. Jarrctt Stampcs of Dallas, cousin of the bride, and Darrell
Ethridge of San Angelo were ushers. Reading the scripture was Susan Hinkle,
cousin of the bride. A duet sung by Jessica and Monica Stampcs of Dallas,
cousins of the bride, was entitled "This Day." Penny Mayfield of Dallas
registered the guests.
Following the ceremony, the reception was held in the church's Fellowship
Hall. Guests were served an assortment of hors d'oeuvres. The centerpiece of
that table was a carved watermelon of the bride and groom surrounded by an
assortment of fresh fruits.
The bride's table was draped with ivory satin and tulle accented with pearls
and tulle bows and flowers. The multi-tiered cake suspended on crystal
candlesticks and adorned with flowers was the centerpiece for the table.
Serving at the bride’s table were Christi Beth Borchardt Fisher, Deanne
Reagor Housouer and Mary Catherine Hatcher Chadwick, all friends of the
bride, and Amber Brooks Ford, cousin of the bride.
A grapevine carousel horse with a colorful floral spray and rich chocolate
fudge cake, mounded with chocolate dipped strawberries, doubled as focal
points on the grooms’ table. It was draped with a fuchsia cloth, trimmed with
fresh greenery.
After the traditional bouquet and garter toss, the bride and groom left
showered by fresh rose petals for their honeymoon in San Antonio. They are
making their home at 5811 Pineland Drive, Apt. 1139, Dallas, Texas 75231.
