Khrissen Barbee could hardly have
written the script for a better day in the
livestock ring than she had Saturday.
The 9-year-old Town & Country 4-H
Club member exhibited not only the
grand champion and reserve grand
champion lambs in the Tulia FFA and 4-
H Livestock Show, but her animals
claimed the top two places in the
crossbred lamb category.
Aaron Scarborough had the same
type success as Miss Barbee and Dana
Dawson had in '90, a grand champion
his first day in the ring. The 8-year-old
was making his exhibiting debut Satur-
day with a 252 Yorkshire which judge
Danny Nusser chose as the top winner in
the swine show.
Daniel Gibson received a double dose
of good news Saturday. His 1,080 pound
cross became the grand champion steer
and a short time later Daniel was re-
vealed as winner of steer showmanship
honors.
The 11-year-old son of David and
Glenda Gibson is a member of the Town
& Country 4-H Club, as are all grand
champion exhibitors in the Tulia show.
A third grader, Aaron Scarborough is
the son of Paul and Nancy Scarborough.
MEDIUM WOOLS WIN
Miss Barbee, a daughter of Matthew
and Brenda Barbee, showed her black
face medium wool 101 pound lamb to
grand champion honors, a fete she first
accomplished in the ’90 Tulia show as a
rookie exhibitor. Her reserve grand
champion was also a black face medium
wool.
Dana Dawson was another repeat

winner. Exhibitor of the grand cham-
pion barrow of the Tulia show as a first-
year exhibitor in '90, Miss Dawson
again enjoyed the sweet taste of success
as Nusser, Carson County agricultural
Extension agent, went to her 263 poun-
der as champion of die cross breed and
later tabbed the animal as reserve grand
champion of the show.
The nine-year-old daughter of Ken
and Nancy Dawson is a member of the
Town & Country 4-H Club.
Success ran in the family Saturday.
Christopher Gibson stood immedi-
ately behind his brother Daniel as his
1,130 pounder was named reserve grand
champion steer.
Sisters Memory and Deatra McEach-
em garnered grand champion and re-
serve grand champion honors, respec-
tively, in the heifer division. They cap-
tured the same honors last year except
that the order was reversed.
Deatra, 13, and Memory, 11, are
daughters of Terry and Diann McEach-
em. They are members of Town and
Country 4-H Club.
SHOWMANSHIP HONORS
Denise Otwell, an astute exhibitor for
several yea^s, was singled out for show-
manship honors in the lamb show.
Named as the top swine showman
was Felicia Johnson.
Tulia FFA Chapter and Town &
Country 4-H Club sponsored the shows.

Anna Rosales. —School Photo
New Highland
Heroes Selected
The last Highland Heroes of calen-
dar-year 1990 were drawn from a box
containing the names of all eligible stu-
dents on January 3, 1991. December’s
Highland Heroes are as follows: morn-
ing kindergarten, Casandra Cruz,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cruz;
afternoon kindergarten, Jo Anna Rosa-
les, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mario
Rosales; first grade, Jennifer Cardona,
daughter of Eddy and Carolyn Cardona;
second grade, Evan Adams, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Donald Adams; and third
grade, Metty Benavidez, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Guadalupe Benavidez.
These five new Highland Heroes will
be featured on posters in the school's
hallway that will display their pictures
and will include special information
about each student. The students will
also wear badges with their pictures on
them declaring them to be Highland
Heroes and will be treated by their prin-
cipal, Bill Hicks, to a special lunch at the
local restaurant of their choice.
Each month, all students who try their
best, finish their work, show good
manners and good citizenship in the
classroom, the cafeteria, the halls, and
on the playground, become eligible for
the drawing from which the Highland
Heroes are named.
The Highland faculty congratulates
these December 1990 Highland Heroes.
