Dixon Speaker For Men's Day This
Sunday At First Baptist Church
January 20, First Baptist Church of
Tulia is observing Baptist Men’s Day.
Robert E. Dixon of Texas Baptist Men
will be the speaker for the 7:00a. m. men
and boys breakfast in fellowship hall of
the building. He will, bring the message
for the 11:00 a. m. worship service.
Robert E. Dixon has been the leader
and director of men and boy's work for
Texas Baptist for over 20 years. Under
his leadership men and boy's mission
organizations have experienced tremen-
dous growth.

ducted by the men of the church.
For nearly 60 years, Southern Baptist
Churches have set aside one day in the
year known as Baptist Men's Day. This
is a day to recognize the men and their
contribution to the life and mission of
the church. Baptist Men's Day is the
church's opportunity to affirm the role of
laymen in missions.
The public is cordially invited to at-
tend, according to Alvin Fleming,
Brotherhood director of First Baptist

twenty-four (24) RSVP volunteers re-
ceived ice cream coupons for their Janu-
ary birthdays, Wednesday during the
noon hour at the Tulia Senior Center.
Tulia Floral furnished the floral center-
piece for the birthday party and Jolly
Roger Bakery furnished the birthday
cake. RSVP urges you to shop with the
merchants who make it possible to
thank our RSVP volunteers in such a
way. Those names drawn for $5.00
worth of groceries each from Joe Bob's
IGA were: Mae McClendon, Tulia;
Lctha Elms from Vigo; Arch Johnson
and Lounell Mitchell from Happy.
Those names drawn to receive $5.00
worth of gasoline from Gale's Texaco
were: Flossie Payne, Helen Malone and
Katherine Neill fromTulia and Adrian
Bates from Happy.
Frances Henderson's name was
drawn to receive a tube of lotion from
Modem Beauty Shop. The Tulia Senior
Center gave a coupon for five free meals
to Ona Mae Reed. Iva Ferguson’s name
was drawn to receive a free dinner from
Cactus Cafe. Kathleen Loring's name
was drawn for the coupon from
Shirley's Cleaners. State Cleaners gave
a coupon to Alfred Traub. Irene Morris
received a can of hair spray from Pat’s
Beauty Shop. The Beauty Nook gave a
coupon for a tube of lotion to June
Andrews.
Frances Henderson of Vigo and
Adrian Bates of Happy were both cho-
sen as volunteers of the month. Adrian
Bales was bom in Swisher County and
has been a member of RSVP for two
years. He and his wife Wanda are the
parents of two daughters and grandpar-
ents to four. Adrian is vice chair-person
of the Swisher County RSVP Advisory
Council. Adrian received a coupon for a
free mexican dinner compliments of El
Matador Restaurant.
Frances Henderson moved to
Swisher County in 1964 and has been a
member of RSVP since 1985. Frances
was a leader in compiling a centennial
book, "Interments in Swisher County".
She is a very busy lady in the Vigo
community. She and her husband J. C.
are the parents of four children and they
are grandparents to six.

Completes Course
PvL Kenneth A. Lange has completed
a wheel vehicle repairer course at Aber-
deen Proving Ground, Md.
Students were taught troubleshoot-
ing, replacement, and adjustment of
components and assemblies of wheeled
vehicles. Use of publications, tools, and
diagnostic equipment also were in-
cluded in the training.
He is the son of Jerry A and Judy A.
Lange of Nazareth.
The private is a 1990 graduate of
Nazareth High School.
Central Church of Christ is located at
Third and Donley in Tulia.
Pvt. Christopher Tipton
Ends Recruit Training
Marine Pvt. Christopher L. Tipton, a
resident of 208 Apache Trail, Tulia, has
completed recruit training at Marine
Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.
During the 13-week training cycle,
Tipton was taught the basics of battle-
field survival. He was introduced to the
tpyical daily routine that he will experi-
ence during his enlistment and studied
the personal and professional standards
traditionally exhibited by Marines.
He participated in an active physical
conditioning program and gained profi-
ciency in a variety of military skills
including first aid, rifle marksmanship
and close order drill. Teamwork and
self-discipline were emphasized
throughout the training cycle.
A 1990 graduate of Tulia Senior High
School, he joined the Marine Corps
Reserves in August 1990. His parents
are Mr. and Mrs. Gary Tipton.

Plans For One-Day Revival Sunday
A former pastor, Shad Rue, will lead
a one-day revival at Calvary Baptist
Church this Sunday, Jan. 20.
Morning service begins at 10:55 a. m.
and the evening service is scheduled for
7 p. m., according to the Rev. Mark
Phelps, pastor.
The Rev. Rue presently serves as
pastor of the Paramount Baptist Church
in Amarillo.
Calvary Baptist Church, "The Light-
house of Tulia," is located at 701 NE El
Paso.
