Challenge
She burst through the front door corridor
and ran into her mother’s arms, still
drenched in sweat from the race she had
WON. “Mom! Mom! I won! I won the race!
I’m going to be a track meet star,TOO! Just
like you!” There was nothing more
heartwarming to this mother than having
one of her THREE daughters yearning to
follow in her own footsteps. Throughout
her FOUR years in high school, no one was
ever able to beat her out on the track, her
second home. She was one of the FIVE
fastest runners in the state of Texas. That is,
up until the day she got SICK. It was May I,
1990, her senior year. A drastic fall on the
track caused her to break her right leg, and
she was unable to compete in the state
finals. Her devastation overcame her. All she
did for the rest of her senior year and the
following summer was sleep. She ATE
repeatedly. When her baby girl, Sally,
deliriously stormed through the door at
the age of NINE, she saw herself, the young,
hopeful racer who dreamed of becoming a
track star.

I’ve been to many parties, but only ONE of
them was the best so far. I remember that I
was wearing TWO beautiful silver earrings.
THREE people complemented those
earrings. There were about FOUR people
wearing the same outfit. I danced with FIVE
different guys. The party was special
because I ate SIX chocolate covered
strawberries. And to make my night, I
danced with the cutest guy there, and
SEVEN girls were jealous.

When people think of the Beatles, they
think of them as ONE of the greatest bands
of all time. I would like to think their
purpose in making music was TO express
love. Their first THREE singles were all
about love. They traveled to America FOR
their fans. By the time they had released
their FIFTH album, the entire world knew
about them.

Tomorrow
I’ve been to many places but only ONE has
been special. Last summer, I went TO
Chicago, and it was great! I went with my
parents and my THREE cousins. It was the
best vacation ever. FOUR days before we
were going to come home, one of my
cousins got sick and we had to come home
early. We went to the airport. It was full
because all the flights had been delayed. We
had to spend FIVE hours just waiting. Even
though we were stuck in the airport, we
had a lot of fun because we met SIX other
kids that wanted to play with us. We had a
lot of fun. It was the best vacation.

ONE of the most exciting moments of my
life was when I had my 15. I had been
planning it for about TWO years, and I
couldn’t wait. It was a beautiful day. The
TREES and leaves were flowing in the wind.
After we left my house in the limousine, we
had about FOUR hours until the party
started. FIVE hours had already passed by
when I arrived at the reception hall. I felt a
little SICK that day, but it was still amazing.
It was around SEVEN when my first guests
started to arrive. When EIGHT o’clock
came around, that’s when the party started.
It was a quarter past NINE, and everyone
was out dancing and having fun. After TEN
or so, things started getting wild. This was
truly one of the best nights of my life.

Books, ONE big line of text,
With TWO main things, a start and an end.
Made from the materials ofTREES,
FOR entertainment or to fill us in.
There are well over FIVE billion of these,
Each giving us a FIX on something.
By the time we’re SEVEN, we up the ante.
So by the time we’re EIGHT, we stay up
late.
Going on past NINE ‘til we can’t see,
Reading at TEN pages a minute, such a
steady rate.
Books, they’ve been around since I I b.c.
and they still will be around in 12,000.

ONE day, I’m going to have my own vehicle.
I’m going to go finish my education and go
TO college. I might be busy more than
THREE times a week. Also, I’m going to
have a wonderful career. I’m going to do all
this FOR myself and my family.

The ONE thing you can always learn from
in life is a book. I mean, don’t get me wrong,
there are other things,TOO, but a book is
extraordinary. The thing about books is that
there aren’t just THREE, FOUR, or FIVE
things to write about. Books are limitless
with ideas. It doesn’t matter if you are in
the SIXTH, SEVENTH, or EIGHTH grade.
Reading and writing share information with
everyone.

As I was ONE in a thousand middle school
students, who hardly got any individual
attention, I felt that I needed to search for
help because there was a high chance that
help would never find me in such a huge
school. Out of TWO floors filled with
classrooms, packed with teachers, I could
only find a single teacher. He was very
understanding and shared a lot of time with
me, along with THREE books! There are
about FOUR of us in my house, and I am
the first to ever even enter middle school.
None of them read, and please trust me,
neither did I! I believe I tried reading a
book of only FIVE pages, once before, and I
simply could not keep my eyes open long
enough. So, as I spoke to this great teacher,
he explained to me how he had been in
that middle school for SIX years...While we
sat and chatted, he pointed out a book
called, “The SEVEN Habits of Highly
Effective Teens.” I will forever be grateful to
this teacher for those EIGHT hours that he
shared, but mostly for that book that
introduced me to reading.

How can it
rain on a
sunny day?
This will happen on hot and humid days
when there is enough instability in the
air to facilitate isolated to scattered
thunderstorm development.This will not
be organized and typically dissipate
within 20 to 30 minutes leaving behind a
sunny sky.
