Central Baptist Church to host
Anniversary and Revival
Obituaries
PATRICIA ANN BLACK HUDSON
The members of the Central
Baptist Church will be celebrating
Anniversary Sunday on Septem-
ber 20. The 11 o’clock worship
service will also be the beginning
of a four-day revival, with services
being held each evening at 7
o’clock. Hugh Adkisson of Fort
Worth will be the guest speaker
for the revival. He is the only sur-
viving former pastor of the church
and the members are honored to
have him coming. Mrs. Adkisson
is in poor health and will not be
able to attend.
Rev. Adkisson is the retired
pastor of Metropolitan Baptist
Church of Ft. Worth, where he
served for more than 26 years. He
has visited numerous mission
Fields and has sponsored many
missionaries and mission projects
throughout the world. Rev. and
Mrs. Adkisson have been in the
ministry for 59 years and their
four children are all in “The Lord’s
work”. A son, Larry, is the present
pastor of Metropolitan Baptist
Church.
The 50th anniversary of the
church building at 108 N. 6th is
being observed. The church was
organized on September 21, 1944
and met for several years at vari-
ous locations on Main Street, in-
cluding the old Bestway Market
building (which is presently being
remodeled) and the old Rebekah-
Odd Fellows Lodge. In 1948 the
church members were led to build
their own church building at the
present location.
Over the years the church prop-
erty has changed with the addition
of the Fellowship Hall facing Main
Street and the purchase of the for-
mer Tip Top Cleaners building at
the comer of 6th and Main. The
old parsonage, which was adja-
cent to the Fellowship Hall, was
moved from the church property
after a new’ church parsonage was
purchased in 1992.
During the church’s history
there have been very' few changes
in its leadership. The first pastor
was Sanford Cole (October 1944-
December 1945), followed by
Harold Webb(March 1946-March
1952), Hugh Adkisson (March
1952-December 1953). The fourth
pastor was Vernon Cline, who led
the church for over 27 years, Janu-
ary 1954-June 1981. These pas-
tors will be honored on
Anniversary Sunday, and their
families have been inited to at-
tend.
The current pastor, Rick Tim-
mons, graduated in May of 1977
from Baptist Bible College in
Springfield, Missouri with a
Bachelor of Science degree. He
assumed his position in June of
1981 and moved herewith his wife,
Sherry, and son Brad (then 4
years old). Another son, Jarrod,
was born in 1982.
Pastor Timmons stated that he
feels very pleased to have been
able to pastor this church for the

church. They have been members
since July of 1988. Roy serves as
the Music and Youth Director and
church treasurer. Charlotte is the
church pianist. Both are Sunday
school teachers and are active in
all aspects of church functions.
Central Baptist Church is an in-
dependent Baptist church associ-
ated with the Baptist Bible Fel-
lowship International of Spring-
Field, Missouri. The members
encourage and invite the public to
come and join them in worship at
this special time. They are looking
forward to welcoming many for-
mer members as they return for
the Anniversary Sunday. Dinner
will be provided following the
morning service.
