Holiday Briefs
Pampa*s “Celebration of Lights**
The largest lighted Christmas Theme Park in the Panhandle opened
in Pampa November 21. Visitors can take a tour of the “Winter Won-
derland” at Recreation Park located on Highway 60 East, adjacent to
the Rodeo Arena. More than 300 lighted Christmas theme displays will
be featured. Lighting will be each evening from 6-11 p.m. through
December 31. #46
Victorian Christmas
The Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in Canyon will feature its
21st annual Victorian Christmas Open House December 5,6 and 7. The
open house will feature carriage lights, an elaborately decorated Victo-
rian Christmas Tree, vintage toys and antiques, a Christmas Pioneer
Town, storytellers, poets, musicians and musical entertainment. There
also will be a special appearance by Santa Claus, who, sitting in an
antique sleigh, will be available to hear children’s wishes and to have his
picture taken with young visitors. For more information, call 806-656-

WTAMU Christmas Concert
The annual West Texas A&M University Christmas Concert will be
at 8 p.m. Friday, Decembers, in Mary Moody Northen Hall at WTAMU
in Canyon. The concert will feature performances by the University
Chorale, the Collegiate Choir and the Symphony Orchestra. For more

Carol of Lights Celebration
West Texas A&M University will feature its 7th Annual Carol of
Lights at 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 9 on the south side of Old Main.
The WTAMU Chorale will lead Christmas carols as the 30,000 feet of
lights are lit across the WTAMU campus. Those attending are encour-
aged to bring new or gently used toys to be donated to the Toys for Tots
program sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps. A warm cup of hot
chocolate and cookies will greet guests in the foyer of Old Main after

“Totally Texas Holiday** Website
Texans looking for unique ideas for Thanksgiving, Hanukkah,
Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Year’s celebrations can visit the Depart-
ment of Agriculture’s ‘Totally Texas Holiday” page on the Internet.
The website, found at http://www.agr.state.tx.us., features holiday sug-
gestions “with a Texas touch,” including decorating ideas, menu items,
holiday gift baskets and more. There also is a “Kids Korner” which
features holiday activities for young Texans. #47
WCTU Christmas Bazaar marks
91st anniversary on December 5
Preparations for Canadian’s
91st annual WCTU Bazaar,
scheduled for Friday, December
5th, are well underway.
The opening ceremony will be-
gin at 11 a.m. and will be con-
ducted by Katherine Rutledge.
Turkey dinners, served
homestyle, will be served begin-
ning at 11:30 Friday morning and
again at 5:30 in the evening.
The cost of the meals will re-
main at $5 for adults and $2.50
for children 12 and under.
Shelley Behney and Blossom
Newell wall be the cashiers.
This year Jo Wilburn is the ^
general chairman and Peggy
Pollard and Betsy Alexander
will be co-chairmen in charge of
the kitchen. Working with them
will be Christina Hadaway, Judy
Walker, Lori Pletcher, Jan’et
Schaef, Therese Abraham, Gay-
dean Bucher, Olivia Sims and Bar-
bara Northcott.
Caroline Cornett will be in
charge of the smaller diningroom
where women of the Sacred Heart
Church provide fast service for
diners who have a limited lunch
time.
Peggy Heusel and Audrey
Cockrell will be in charge of the
take-out meals.
Volunteer callers are soliciting
donations of pies and cakes for
dessert. Other volunteers will be
baking dozens of rolls, and still
others will be roasting the turkeys
to be served to the many local and
out-of-town diners w'ho consider
this event the beginning of
their holiday season.
Several aluminum roasters
used in previous years are
available at the Library for
those cooking turkeys.
Dawn Webb and Gibann
> Dickens will be soliciting funds
from downtown merchants and
others for purchase of turkeys for
the dinners.
As they have for many years
three local women’s organiza-
tions, the PEO, the Woman’s Club
and the WCTU Mothers will have
booths where home-baked and
home-made items will be sold to
benefit the Library.
