Watching the show with rapt attention,
these Cub Scouts were among the 10,000
Boy and Girl Scouts who accepted Glenn
McCarthy's invitation to see Edgar Bergen
and Charlie McCarthy at the Shamrock
Sunday afternoon.
Janice Erwin, member of East End’s Girl
Scout Troop 342, and Bobby Copenhader, of
Cub Scout Troop 266, West University
Place, were among the more fortunate who
got to "talk" to Charlie McCarthy—as
Edgar watches.
William Foreman, crippled recently
when struck by an automobile, watched
the show with his father, Criminal Attor-
ney Percy Foreman, permanent resident
of the hotel. To accommodate the hordes
of kids, three shows were given.
Packed like sardines, two and three to
a seat, were these Girl Scouts. In the first
row are members of Brownie Troop 360,
of Garden Oaks. In the second row are
members of Girl Scout Troop 368, of St.
Vincent de Paul Catholic Parish.
Charlie, of course, wasn't the only McCarthy at-
tracting attention. Glenn McCarthy, oilman and owner
of the Shamrock, was besieged by autograph seekers
and obliged his young fans. Beside him is Dr. C. A.
Dwyer, head of the McCarthy Center Clinic. Henry
Busse's orchestra and the Ben Yost Royal Guards also
entertained at the affair.
