Bel-Hi Teachers
Work Toward MA
At U. of South
Bennie Ardist Zinn, Jr. and Jean
Austin Hillin, teachers at Bellaire
High School, are attending the Se-
wanee Summer Institute of Science
and Mathematics at the University
of the South this summer. Both are
working toward the degree of mas-
ter of arts in teaching.
The Sewanee center is sponsored
by the National Science Foundation
and manned by the science and
mathematics faculties of the Uni-
versity of the South. Fifty second-
ary school teachersare selected
competitively as students each
summer, with all expenses paid.
Dr. H. Malcolm Owen, head of
the University of the South biology
department, directs the program.
Bakeless Bake
Sale Is GOP
Women’s Plan
Republican Women of Precinct
284 are taking part in a unique
“bakeless bake sale” during July.
Instead of spending a day bak-
ing and another selling their wares,
the members are simply sending
the price of a cake or pie to the club
treasurer, Mrs. William Treuter.

Miss Wheatcroft was graduated
at Kinkaid and has attended Austin
College and the university of Hous-
ton where she is majoring in Spe-
cial Education. Mr. Schmid is a
graduate of Austin college and is
now in the United States Coast Gu-
ard stationed in Memphis, Tenn.
The couple will marry at the end
of summer in St.Franceis Episco-
pal Church where Mr. Wheatcroft
is the rector.
John Magruder Is
1st Class Airman
John M. Magruder in, son of Mr.
and Mrs. J. M. Magruder Jr. of
7634 Troulon, Houston, has been
promoted to airman first class in
the U. S. Air Force.
Airman Magruder is a radio re-
pairman at Ellington AFB.Tex. He
is a member of the Air Defense
Command which provides aero-
space defense against hostile air-
craft and missiles.
The airman, a graduate of Pasa-
dena (Tex.) High school, attended
the University of Houston.
