Postmaster Amos Gives
Advice For Christmas Mailing
“Last Christmas the post of-
fice handled more mail then ever
before, yet the operation was the
most efficient in history,” Post-
master Dell Amos said today.
Nationally about 99 percent of
the Christmas mail reached its
destination before chrismtas Eve.
This year about seven billion
pieces of mail will be delivered
nationally during the Christmas
peak season. To make sure it gets
to the proper destinations in time,
everyone should plan to mail as
far in advance as possible.
Mr. Amos had advice which
would help mailers prepare for the
upcoming mailing season:
1. Up date last year’s address
lits and include ZIP Codes.
2. Prepare a gift list as soon
as possible. Shop early to take
advantage of full stocks. Be sure
to have on hand enough shipping
materials; boxes, tape, wrapping
paper, etc.
3. Use first class postage on
greeting cards. This assures their
being forwarded if the recipient
has moved or that undeliverable
cards will be returned if a re-
turn address is on the envelope.
18th Annual
BSP Dance
Is Friday
The Gamma Xi chapter of Beta
Sigma Phi will hold its 18th an-
nual city-wide dance Friday, Dec.
3, from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. in
the Willowisp Country Club.
Peter Haig’s Orchestra will fur-
nish the music. Proceeds will go
to a Houston home for the aged
and the financing of a child under
the Foster Parents Plan.
Tickets include setups and
breakfast. Information may be ob-
tained by calling Mrs. Lynn Lowry,
RI8-5483.
FOUR SEASONS
The December meeting of Four
Seasons Garden Club will be a
Card Party and Christmas Holi-
day Luncheon held at Braebum
Country Club on Dec. 8 beginning
at 10 a.m. A brief business meet-
ing will precede the luncheon.
Hostesses for the day will be
Mrs. H.W. Stuckey, 5418 Jackwood.
and Mrs. H.F. Campbell, 5414
Jackwood. They wiU be assisted
by Mrs. O.A. Sparks, 5430 Jack-
wood, Social Chairman, Mrs. Ro-
bert Masar, 5423 imogene, and
Mrs. N.E. Tengg, 5406 Jason.
The postmaster emphasized a-
gain this year that poorly wrap-
ped and loosely packed cartons
are the major cause of parcel post
damage. He urged that cartons be
packed tightly by using stuffing
material to fill up the empty space
around the merchandise. Avoid
mailing braekable such as per-
fume, lamps, china or ceramics.
He asked that all mailers make
an effort to address their letters,
cards and packages as clearly as
possible and that they make every
attempt to mail often, not waiting
until the last minute to deposit
all their gifts and greetings.
Postmaster Amos said to be
sure and keep the following win-
dow service schedule handy for
hours of additional service at the
Bellaire Post Office.
The Post Office is open Mon-
day through Friday from 8 a.m.
until 5:30 p.m., and on Saturdays
from 8 a.m. until 12 noon. On
Saturday, December 11, and Sat-
urday, December 18, hours will
be extended until 5 p.m.
On Sunday, December 19, win-
dow service will be provided from
1 p.m. until 5 p.m. for the sale
of stamps and the acceptance of
parcel post - no other service
will be available.
