What’s Different About
House at 6147 Beechnut?
The house at 6147 Beechnut
is quite modern, very attracivc
taut all in all not muc'h different
from the rest of the houses in
Robindeil.
Not much different, that is,
until you discover the oval-
shaped emblem above the door-
way -- the consular seal of
Nicaragua.
Inside live Senor Rafael J.
Huezo, his lovely wife, and their
K-year-old daughter, Doris
Marie, a victim of polio who's
indirectly responsible for her
father being named Nicaragua’s
official representative in Hous-
ton.
The Huezos came to the United
States in October of last year
with impending tradegy hover-
ing over their lives.

Iron Lung
They flew Doris to Houston
in an iron lung after doctors in
Managua told them her only
chance for life was to come to
the famed Southwest Respira-
tory Center.
Then while her parents waited
prayerfully, courageous little
Doris waged a stubborn battle
with polio. Her father was ap-
pointed Consul in January.
Two weeks ago the doctors
said she was well enough to
come home permanently.
As I chatted last week with
her mother, Doris lay on a spec-
ial bed in the family room, her
big brown eyes glued to the
television set.
She talked about her cowboy
idol, Roy Rogers without a trace
of an accent.
“She’s gotten to the point
where she’s forgetting her
Spanish,” said her mother, “And
when she does speak Spanish
it’s with a Texas accent.”
Barefoot Callers
Principal callers at the con-
sulate these days are barefoot
lads and pigtailed lassies who
come to visit Doris.
“The children around us have
been simply wonderful about
visiting her and keeping her
entertained," said Mrs. Huezo.
Soon Doris will be busy
giving English lessons to
two very special people, bro-
thers, Ralph III, 4, and Frank,
3, who are scheduled to arrive
this week from Managua.
They haven’t seen their sister
since she was rushed to the
airport in an iron lung last
October.
Mrs. Huezo’s dark eyes shone
with happiness when she talked
about the boys.

Stage Surprise Salute To Pastor
The Rev. Coy John Key,
pastor of Bellaire Baptist Church,
was downright irritated over
the mystery surrounding plans
for the July 29 Training Union
program.
He’d ask what was going on
and the members of his flock
would just smile wisely and
say, “Wait and see.”
But his irritation turned to
speechless amazement when the
big night came and he found
himself the central figure in a
This Is Your Life program
staged by the Young Peoples’
Department of the church.
As he watched and listened
friends and relatives dramatical-
ly highlighted his life—from the
day of his birth on July 20. 1918
in the little sawmill town of
Manning near Lufkin right up
to his current service to Bell-
airc Baptist.
Bryan Hill served as moder-
ator of the program.
The first “voice from the
past” was that of the pastor’s
uncle, H. E. Cain of Houston
who related amusing incidents
from the Rev. Key’s early life.

atically span the years in the
