A hearing on a zoning change
which would allow the construc-
tion of a motel on Spruce at
Sixth opposite Bellaire General
Hospital had smooth sailing at
Monday night’s council meeting.
The hearing lasted all of ten
minutes and no voices were
heard in opposition.
The property is owned by R.
R. “Pop” Reamer, a pioneer
Bellaire resident.
George H. Glass, 5119 Jessa-
mine, representing Richmond
Rd. and Engineering Co., an af-
filiate of Spaw-Glass Inc., pre-
sented the re-zoning proposal to
the council.
He introduced Mr. and Mrs.
John Gideon of Garwood, Texas,
,who he said will buy the proper-
ty if it is re-zoned and. move to
Bellaire to operate the proposed
33 unit m e tel. Mrs. Gideon is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Reamer. The motel will include
a manager’s apartment where
the Gideons will live.

preceded the hearing, council
adopted the $1,216,888 city bud-
get for 1963-64 and set the tax
rate at $1.90, the same as last
year.
