Round dancing is more widely
known as folk dancing. The
dances of yesteryear would be
“Cotton Eyed Joe”, “Put Your
Little Foot”, etc. Today, round
dancing not only encompasses
the old-time favorites such ns
waltzes, two-steps, polkas and
schottisches, but also includes
such modern rhythms as Rhum-
bas, Cha-Cha-Chas, Tangos, etc.
As such, round dancing is one
of the fastest growing recrea-
tional activities in America to-
day, with local, state and na-
tional round dance festivals held
throughout the country.
Houston has played an im-
portant part in this movement,
for Houston’s 10th Ahnual Round
Dance Festival, which will be
| held at the Rice Hotel in Feb-
ruary, 1962 will be the oldest
continuous round dance festival
in the nation. Taz and Ann Wat-
son, 4715 Braes Valley, chairman
of the 1962 Houston Festival,
will conduct this ten-week
course in basic round dancing.
Class will meet each Thursday
night from 8 to 10 and couples
of all ages are invited to par-
ticipate in the program. Charge
for the course will be $10.00
per couple.
