First Concert At Godwin
Park Will Be July 10
CHARLES F. LINTON
Promotion of Charles F.
Bellaire, from captain to ma-
jor in the .Kith Div., active Na-
tional Guard, has been an-
nounced in Austin.
Mr. Linton, a member of the
Bellaire zoning: board, and his
wife Irma have lived at 4607
Locust for 15 years.
An agent of the New
England Life Insurance Co.,
Mr. Linton is assistant to the
adjutant general of the 36th
Division—Lt. Col. Harry Kel-
ton of Austin.
For the first time, the Hous-
ton Summer Symphony, with
Ezra Rachlin conducting and
Soprano Paulino Stark as soloist
will play a concert in Godwin
Park, Rutherglen and Balm-
forth, west of the Meyerland
shopping center, at 8:15 PM
Monday. (July 10.)
This free park concert is be-
ing financed by the recording
and transcription industriec’
trust fund, through Local 65, A.
F. of M.
One of Houston’s most pop-
ular young singers, Miss Stark
has appeared with both the
Houston and Austin Symphony
Orchestras, as well as with the
Summer Symphony, with Mr.
Rachlin conducting. She has
sung numerous leading roles in
productions of the Houston
Grand Opera Assn., and has
been a frequent soloist with the
Bach Society, as well as having
sung the lead in “Most Happy
Fella” at Theatre, Inc. and in
-The Consul” at the Playhouse.
She sang a recital at the Junior
League this spring.
Monday evening Miss Stark
Will sing four Puccini arias:
"Tu, che di gelida” and “Sig-
nore, ascolta” from “Turandot;
“In quelle trine morbide" from
“Manon Lescaut” and “Un bel
di vedremo” from “Madama
Butterfly”.
Orchestral works programmed
are the Glinka overture to “Rus-
sian and Ludmilla”, the Mo-
zart Symphony No. 40 in G
Minor, Dances from "The Bart-
ered Bride” by Smetana, and
Liszt’s Second Hungarian Rhap-
sody.
The Summer Symphony com-
prises 40 musicians from the
Houston Symphony Orchestra
and plays each Sunday and
Thursday evening in Hermann
Park, under the auspices of the
City of Houston and the Houston
Symphdny Society.

Houston and Mrs. T. W. Walter,

to Camp Martha Madely at Con-
roe, Texas for an overnight out-
ing. r.
Two Senior Girl Scouts, Sue
Rawlings, 3933 Case, and Judy
Arnold, 6019 Wakeforest, ac-
companied tire troop and enter-
tained the girls in the evening
with news from “Round-Up
Time”, singing and games. They
also joined another troop
camping in the area for fellow-
ship around the campfire.
On Sunday afternoon, the par-
ents met at the campsighl to
witness the fly up and investi-
ture into the Intermediate Pro-
gram.

The Indians nave a two-win
lead over their closest contend-
ers, the Bel Airs, in the Bell-
aire Senior Teen-Age League.
League games this week are
being played on Thursday and
Saturday night at 6:15 and 8:15
p.m., rather than the usual sche-
dule of Tuesday and Thursday
nights. Games are played at
Feld Field and the public is
urged to come out and see some
really exciting baseball.
