Bellaire Welcomes Two New Citizens
In the weekly newspaper busi-
ness, the day after publication I
is generally shunned by editors
—in fact, they usually hole up |
somewhere until the smoke dis-
appears. This is because of the
errors, misprints, wrong prices,
wrong cutlines and what-not that
creep into practically any edition
of a newspaper printed.
■ ■ ■
Bellaire welcomes two new
citizens.
Mary Carol Robertson, 15,
and Dole Robertson, 11, have
come to Jive with Mr. and Mrs.
Cecil M. Robertson of 4527 Pin
Oak Lane. Mrs. Robertson is
THE
Dr. Juanita T. Hart, a Bell-
aire pediatrician.
Mary Carol and Dale were
appointed to the guardianship
of Mr. and Mrs. Robertson on
June I. They are children nt
Mr. Robertson’s late brother
and his wife, who both died
in 1946. Since that time the
children have lived in the Me-
thodist Children’s Home in
Waco.
Both children will enter
school in Bellaire in Septem-
ber, when Mary Carol will be
in the eleventh grade and Dole
in the sixth.
Mary Carol is a pianist and
loves music, according to Mrs.
Robertson, and Dale Is "pre-
sently interested in getting on
one of the Little League base-
ball teams," she said.
EXAN
BELLAIRE'S OWN WEEKLY COMMUNITY NEWSPAPER
Serving Bellaire, Robindell, Brae Burn Terrace, Larkwood, Willow Bend. Sharpstown
In the rush of getting last
week’s Bellaire Birthday Edi-
tion out, we caught our share
of weirdos.
To wit:
We seem to have misplaced a
minister—Rev. Bruce Ravenel,
who drew an identification line
making him minister of the Rich-
mond Plaza Baptist church. Real-
ly, he’s the leader of the flock
at St. Matthew’s Episcopal.
Several people, in various
stages of temper, chided us
about this. One demanded to
know if we had any Episco-
palians on the staff! Probably
preparing to excommunicate
him, her of them.
Then, 'Bellaire Fabrics came in
for a blooper on our port—we
got prices mixed up. Duck at 29
cents a yard (should have been
69 cents) and summer sheers at
69 (should have been 29c).
Caught this error, but not until
some issues were run off.
Left out several pictures that
should have gone in. Named
one lady as president of a gar-
den club when she wasn’t. Pla-
ced Bellaire Food Market in
the position of offering 5
pounds of potatoes for 39 cents
when it was 10 pounds for that
price. Of course, we weakly
explained that was better than
reversing the error by mak-
ing it 10 pounds for 5 cents!
This didn’t set too well with
Leona Gingold. No, ma’m!
But one error, I imagine, drew
a few chuckles from readers. It
also involved the St. Matthews
Episcopal Church. It seems that
by January the church will be
“elf supporting”. Gosh! Should
have been “self-supporting”, of
course.
And then, of course, we left
out a few new businesses in our
story about development of the
Bellaire area — Jack Gorham’s
“McDuffie’s” toy emporium on
Old Richmond and Chimney
Rock. And Tom Kenney’s rest-
aurant at Old Richmond and
Rice. Probably others, too.
