Go To Barbados
Mrs. H. C. Darley, incoming
president of the Westmoreland
Garden Club, left Tuesday for
Barbados, in the West Indies,
where she and her three child-
ren will be vacationing.
Mrs. Darley will send and
bring back specimens of West
Indian flowers which will be
placed in the scrapbook of the
garden club.
She is flying and will stop over
in Miami, Florida and in Puerto
Rico. She will return in Sep-
tember.

‘Peter Pan’ Plan
Given For Polio
Bellaire children gave a play,
“Peter Pan”, for the polio bene-
fit fund last Monday night.
The children, 20 strong, cast,
directed and gave the play in
the J. T. Conrlcton ga*age at
5813 White Haven, netting
$5.60, ail of which will be turn-
ed over to the drive.
Directing the play were
Linda Schratterer and Doreen
Schwcigart. Stirring as Peter
Pan was Wendy Schweigart,
and others in the east were
BCTsy Schratterer as Wendy;
Pat Marz as Michael, Mike
Marz as John: Toby Congleton
as Tinker Bell; Darrell Smith
as Mr. Darling; Linda Schrat-
terer as Mrs. Darling; Sheila
Kelleher as Pee Wee; Maur-
een Kelleher as Mr. Smec;
Darrell Smith as Captain Hook
and Walter Steets as Pump.
The Pirates were Judy Dal-
las, Shawn Kelleher, Linda
Schratterer, Dickie Symonday
and Janey Everton. The Lost
boys were Mary Rose Steets,
Bonnie Cangle Hall, Dennis
Schwelgart, and Walter Steet.

KRIST HUBERT
LEADS LIONS ... Mr. Hu-
bert, lumberman and builder,
takes over the reins as presi-
dent of the Bellaire Lions Club
July 1, succeeding Norman
Gauerke.
Hubert Elected
Lions President
Last night Krist Hubert, 5300
Aspen, was installed as the new
president Qf the Bellaire Lions
Club at John’s restaurant.
Mr. Hubert is a native Texan.
He migrated from Halletsville
to Houston 26 years ago. In
1948, he came to Bellaire and
started a successful career in'
building homes. He owns the
Hubert Lumber Company at
5104 Elm.
Aside from building nearly
400 homes in Bellaire and neigh-
boring areas, he has been inter-
ested in civic affairs and poli-
tics. He has promoted the busi-
ness interests of Bellaire as a
director of the Chamber of Com-
merce. He has served the Com-
munity Chest, March of Dimes,
the Feld Park Committee, and
the Dad’s Club.
Mr. Hubert is married and has
a son. He attends the Pilgrim
Lutheran Church. Every fall, Mr.
Hubert disappears to pursue his
favorite hobby—deer hunting.
Other officers installed were
Everal West, first vice-president;
Homer Watkins, second vice-
president; J. Alan Wells, third
vice-president; Rufus Petty, sec-
retary; Sims French, treasurer;
Wayne Beckner, lion tamer; R.
Oliver Thomas, tail twister; Ro-
bert Nielson, second year direc-
tor; and Dudy Michalk, second
year director.

Cox Appointed
New Water Supt.
#Emmet Cox, 41, former sew-
age superintendent of Irving,
Texas, was named water super-
intendent of Bellaire last week,
City Manager Gary Summers an-
nounced Monday. Mr. Cox be-
gan his work in Bellaire June 20.
Coming to Bellaire with 17
years of experience in sewage
and water plants, Mr. Cox will
be in charge of water pumps,
production and distribution, as
well as maintenance of wells and
lines.
Mr. Cox moved his family
from Irving to Bellaire last Mon-
day.
Chiefs Keep
AL League
Steady pitching by Larry
Braswell and Gary Greene, aid-
ed by booming Chief bats, kept
the Simpson-Gillman Chiefs out
in front in the American Lea-
gue race.
The Chiefs defeated Marine
Exploration Yankees 7-4 and tho
Whipple Lumber 17-5. Whipple
Lumber turned back the Wo-
mack Time Stores 10-0 ns John
Shirley turned in a 3-hit per-
formance. The Yankees also de-
feated the Tigers 10-4, staying
close behind the Chiefs.
Jim Sears added twenty points
to his batting average; now bat-
ting a creditable .570, getting 4
hits in 6 times at bat. Two of the
four were home runs.
Mike James with .482 average
replaced Fred Wright, who is
close behind with .478. Robert
Modisette took over fourth place
with .429. Mike James also had
a home run.
League play will continue
again on July 5, after a twelve-
day layoff.
