Calling all G-Men! Be on the
lookout for a fugitive from justice!
Mary Burns, esoaped convict! And
now calling all theatre-goers! Be
on the lookout for "Mary Burns,
Fugitive," for that’s the title of Syl-
via Sidney’s new picture which
opens at the Texas at the Saturday
night preview and runs through
Monday.
‘Mary Burns, Fugitive” brings
Sylvia Sidney back to the soreen in
the kind of role that she plays best.
You acclaimed her in “Ladies of the
Big House" and "An American
Tragedy,” and now here she is back
B&ain in one of the most exciting
melodramas of the year.
Punch-packed, straight - shooting
drama of a little girl in love with a
man who turns out to be a crimi-
nal, of a girl trapped for his crimes
suffering the penalties of his wrong-
doing.
It’s forceful, it’s gripping, It’s
stirring and it adds new honors to
Miss Sidney’s screen career.
Deeply moving, soul-stirring in
every scene, "Mary Burns, Fugitive”
tells the graphic story of Miss Sid-
ney, who owns and runs a roadside
tea roam in the Catskill mountains.
She meets and falls in love with
Alan Baxter, handsome, ex-football
hero. Unaware that he has turned
public enemy, she consents to mar-
ry him. Escaping with stolen bonds,
he is trapped In Miss Sidney’s rest-
aurant, but makes a getaway. Ar-
rested as his accomplice, she is sen-
tenced to 15 years in prison. Break-
ing jail with her cell mate, Pert
KeTtOn, the two gtrfs escape. Not
knowing that Miss Kelton is in
league with G-men who believe Miss
Sidney will seek Baxter’s hideout
as soon as she is tree, Miss Sidney
gets a job in a hospital. There she
meets Melvyn Douglas, temporarily
blind scientist who falls in love with
her.
Pursued: by Baxter’s gang who try
to capture her, Miss Sidney is forced
to roam the country, a fugitive from
justice, relentlessly pursued by her
former sweetheart, Baxter, who re-
fuses to give her up. Seeking refuge
in Douglas’ home, the two are about
to be married when Baxter appears,
threatening to kill Douglas.
A thrilling climax brings the dra-
ma to an exciting end. William K.
Howard did an excellent job on di-
rection.
