John Smith, negro cotton picker who came here two
t k.s ago from Tulsa to work on the Ed Woods farm, near j
Gritty, is dead and S.K. Arnold, negro mechanic from
Oklahoma City, i* in the Shamrock jail following the fatal
shooting of Smith Saturday afternoon.
Smith was killed almost instantly by a bullet from a
pistol of German manufacture. The bullet struck the negro
just below the left arm and came out of his back after it
had passed through the upper region of the body.

B. B. Bonar, formerly canceled
with Shamrock Creamery, Inc., has
purchased the Interest of C. R
, Meek In the Meek At Taplln garage
on Fourth street, Just east of the
D. 0, D. Filling Station. Mr, Bonar
fame here from Houston.
The change has already taken ef-
fect, but the business will continue
to be operated under the name of
Meek At Taplln. The shop will
continue to render the same good

CONTEST EXPLAINED
The membership rumpalgn now
under way In the North Ward Par-
ent-Teachers association Is being
conducted In the Interest of the
school rooms, It was pointed out.
Each room that gets 12 new mem-
bers will receive $2,50 and the room
which signs up the most members
will receive an additional 15, the
money to be spent In Improving
the rooms, as the teacher secs fit,
A prise will also be given the
pupils who secures the largest num-
ber of memberships.
Any patron may become a mem-
ber on payment of the small annual
dues. Good results have marked
the membership contest to dale and
those In charge are hopeful of
signing up most of the patrons be-
fore It closes.

Questioned, Say Reports
A flare-up of a three-year-old football controversy that
bids fair to put Shamrock into a district interscholastic dis-
pute before a board of eligibility will in all probability follow
the scoreless game fought here Friday between the Sham-
rock and Childress high school teams, according to informa-
tion received here Saturday.
The dispute will involve five Shamrock plavers in the
Childress game, according to reports emanating from that
city. The nature of the ineligibility charges was not dis-
closed Childress school officials, who declared such action
would be taken, also refused to give out the names of the
players.
