To the Boys in Service:
Most everyone here Is about half
tickled over the amount of moisture,
we have had this past week and
personally I would like to see much
more for each of you know that we
very seldom ever get too much rain
In this country and unless we do
get quite a bit in the spring, as a
rule, we do not make as good crops
os we should.
Some five weeks ago I got in-
dustrious and planted some garden
and I suppose I did not plant it
at the right time for It Is Just now
trying to come out of the ground
and from now on I am going to
consult the folks that plant by cer-
tain signs of the moon and see if
I can get quicker results on the
rest of the stuff that I plant.
J. W. (Weed) Hanes is here for
a few days and he brought his wife
with him, altho I have never met
her but I am curious to know what
she thinks of the Panhandle and it
would be nice for her to get caught
In a good sandstorm while she Is
here, for I am sure that she would
appreciate seeing one.
Lonzo Clay was In to see me this
past week and In talking to him X
happened to see that he had lost
one of his front teeth and I asked
him If he got it knocked out in
Europe. He said that he lost it there
but that It was supposed to be
pulled.
John Mertel came in to see me
Saturday night and I told him that
he was going to wear the road out
from here to California Just on his
furloughs, he looks good and says
that he is doing OK.
Chester Bird, Is home for a few
days and tells me that It is really
nice to get back for a few days and
that Is one thing that none of the
boys ever do Is to refuse a few days
from camp.'
I believe I said last week I would
try and tell you of the most wired
and funniest experience that I had
while I was In the hospital. Well,
not "long after I had returned to
my room from the place where they
had taken the last picture X was
lying there in bed and was feeling
fine, enjoying some company, whep
a young lady walked to my door and
asked her what she wanted and
she told me .Just as iocn as mf
company left- that she would see
me, so they rPnve immediately and
then she came hi and In one hand
she was carrying an enamel bucket
that I would guess would hold about
one gallon and from this was dang-
ling a long rubber tube, so I asked
her what she was going to do and
she said she was going to give me
an enema. • / ;
I told her that I did not need
one, but she said that I was going
to* get one anyway. Then I said
that I was not too sure about that
and she said, yes, that It was Doc-
tors order, so I told her that in a
case of that kind that it was OK
but told her that I thought only
children had to have them.
Then she proceeded to get me
in a position for the thing and Just
before she gift*’ready she reached
back in a dresser drawer and got
out a bedpan and told me to get
on It. I told her those things were
made to sell and not to use, so she
very politely told me that she was
not taking any chances on me and
to get on It, so I did, and Just then
I asked her how much water sh
had in the can and she told me
S8 ounces, which I figured was al
most two quarts, and then she re-
leased some sort of valve and then
the fun started for there I lay and
could not keep from laughing and
felt about half silly laying there
taking something that I thought
was for children only, but nil at
once I began to notice that I was
beginning to fill up In the lower
region and I asked the lady if she
had drowned a man at this opera-
tion and she said not yet and then
I told her that she had better cut
the thing off before she had her
