The redecorated Berten Drug- company, a Walgreen
agency store, opened Thursday with an introductory one-
cent sale which will continue through Saturday.
Countless bargains are available in every line of mer-
chandise and shoppers will be able to make a great sav-
ing by stocking up on household needs during this three-
day sale.
In acquiring the Walgreen agen-
cy, Roy Berten, manager of the
store, has had the interior com-
pletely redecorated and rearranged
and the Walgreen colors of gray and
green predominate in the decora-
tions. Walls, counters and cases
have been repainted in these shades
and add to the attractiveness of
the new store.
Arrangements of counters and
merchandise shelves has been more
in accordance with the Walgreen
plan and customers will find shop-
ping more convenient. New mer-
chandise has been received for the
sale and shoppers will be able *to
purchase two items for the price
of one, plus one cent.
Berten will continue to handle
many exclusive lines of merchan-
dise as he has in the past, including
Elizabeth Arden cosmetics, one of
the leading brands of cosmetics for
women and known from coast to
coast as a superior product. Other
lines include Justin Leather goods,
manufactured in Texas and a na-
tionally known brand of merchan-
dise; Martha Washington candies
and Nunnally’s chocolates; Anchor
serums and vaccines and Akron
trusses and abdominal supports.
The popular Double-Kay Nuts is
another exclusive line sold at
Bertens.
Among brands of cosmetics, L'A
Donna and Coty’s perfumes and
powders are two popular lines car-

Roy Berten, manager of the Ber-
ten Drug Store, needs no introduc-
tion to residents of Shamrock and
vicinity for he has made his home
here since 1924 and is a popular
young business man of the city.
He was first associated with H.
C. Gordon in the Shamrock Drug
Store and in 1930 opened the Royal
Confectionery which he managed
until 1934. After selling his interest
in the Royal, he was associated with
another city drug firm until 1935
when he returned to the Shamrock
Drug.
In November. 1940. Berten bought
the store from Mr. Gordon and
changed the firm name to Berten
Drug store.
Last December Berten decided to
acquire the Walgreen agency, be-
lieving he could offer a better ser-
vice to his patrons.
Associated in the store is Mrs.
Berten who was born and reared
in Shamrock. She takes an active
part in the firm and is chiefly in
charge of the gift and cosmetic de-
partments.
Other members of the Berten
staff are Carl Dunn, Mrs. S. B.
Morse and Ed Haynes.
Dunn accepted the position as
pharmicist last August, moving here
from Crosbyton. He received his de-
gree in pharmacy from the Univer-
sity of Oklahoma at Norman and

Clovis, N. M„ visited Mrs. Martha
Wilson last week.
