To the Boys in Service:
We may have had a much colder
spell and much more snow than we
have had for the past few days but
if we ever did, it has been a long
time ago for I am telling you that
it has really been about half-rough [
around here for the past few days
find I understand that we have an
other snow coming. At least that
is the report that came over the
radio, but I hope it’s wrong for
one time, for I believe that most
every one here has seen about all
the snow they care to see for
while.
I had a letter from Buddy Berg'
man this past week and he told me
about seeing the East and West
football game and said that he sure
did enjoy It and told me that
should have seen the Flowers boy
from Perryton playing tackle. He
said that to his mind there was no
better man on the field, and as
I remember him he was one of the
eleven that gave us a lot of trouble
several years ago when we played
them for the Regional Champion-
ship.
Merrell Reynolds came in this
past week and brought me some as
good iresh sausage and ribs as I
ever ate, also some liver and heart,
and it was really good, altho there
was a catch to part of this. He
made me divide with Mrs. D. C.
Wood and I made a mistake in
letting her do the dividing, for X
think that she got off with the
better part of it.
F. E. Carreker, Jr., who is now in
South Dakota was in a few days
and came by to see me and one
good thing that he did just as he
walked into the store he said, 'Til
bet that you do not know me,’’ and
sure enough I did not, but it was
really something to see him for he
really looks swell and tells me that
he Is doing OK and the only re-
gret that he has is that the war
will be over before he gets out of
school. However I personally think
that he Is pretty lucky to be in
school rather than to be where
lot of you boys are, for I am sure
that some of you would appreciate
a few days schooling Just for a
change.
X had a very interesting letter
from Ed Nuinez Wischkaemper this
past week and I only wish that he
was running a lot of the big-time
papers for If he was, I would sure
go over big, but as he is not doing
this and is only in the Navy I will
have to be content with reading
the things that he writes me and
at the same time believe that he
may have been seeing things when
he wrote me the letter. But I sure
did appreciate the letter just re-
ceived.
Wayne Fleming was in again
this week and told me that he was
leaving for tire West Coast and
from there he did not know just
where he would go, but said that
he hoped to be back again soon.
Baily (Lefty) Burgess and C. A.
Dysart, Jr., were in the store this
past week and they were also re-
turning for duty and asked me
which part of Tojo I wanted them
to bring me when they returned
and I told them to bring every part
of him back except the grin that
he had on his face.
Harry Clay also tells me that he
is leaving today and that he hopes
to be back home soon,
I had the longest letter this past
week from Woodrow Sims that
X have ever received and I wish
that it was only possible to tell you

everything that he said, but this
would just about take up all of the
paper here and then some, but it
was really Interesting and he tells
me that they get a lot of different
state papers and also home-town
papers and that they are really ap-
preciated but the things that are
most appreciated are letters from
the ones at home and L only wish
that I could write each of you more
often. In fact I could not think
of anything that would be more
enjoyable than to write each boy
in service each week.
Be good sports, live and conduct
yourselves each day that you will
have no cause to regret that day's
living later, write Dad and Mother
and attend church services often,
I am.
Your friend,
Bob Douglas.
