may work easily with the upper
branch. The only obstacle In his
path to that end Is the so-called
Johnson group of irreconcilable*, all
of whom are either Intimate with—as
In the case of Johnson—or very
friendly to Knox.
Knox, however, is far froui strong
physically. lie has been Indisposed
and at limes quite ill for some months.
This might prevent his acceptance of
the post, In addition, as one favor-
ing rejection of the League,, of Na»
lions In virtually all of Its present
phases and with the voting record of
an Irreconcilable, he would have dif-
ficulty in winning over the Wllson-
Cox democrats in the senate, who
might be needed for a tivo-thfrds vote
to ratify a treaty.
Senator lodge Is ottered as second
choice of Harding by the republican
leaders, but lodge, owiug to the de-
mocratic bitterness against him at the
outset, might .have even more trouble
working for a two-jhlrds majority
than Knox. lodge, probably would
be agreeable to the Johnson group
because during the campaign he took
a vastly more extreme position against
the treaty than he did during the sen-

Our Christmas goods are here and now oil dis-
play. Come in and let us show you all through
our line. We are carVying the largest stock of
perfect Diamonds in town.
What We Know
Our Value to you is governed by what we know.
Potatoes are ]>otatoes; onions are onions; cabbage is cab-
bage; and these things you can judge with your eves the
same as we have to do.
But all flour is not good flour, all coffee is not good
coffee; all lard is not good lard; and all baking powders are
not equal to the other.
* .
Nothing in this world but our accumulated knowledge
of the merit of the goods of different manufacturers, makes
this store valuable to you. It is one thing to buy good
goods and be able to sell them cheaply—it is another thing
to buy cheap goods—yet, an entirely different thing.
And it is only the discriminating housewife who will
quickly see the difference and take advantage of the buying
knowledge which we exercise in the purchasing of all our
goods.
