Amos Richardson was born in Texas and acquired his 200-acre homestead on Sept. 19, 1866. He later added
1,724 acres. Amos and his wife, Martha Ann Gandy Richardson, had three children: Lonie Richardson Walters, Hardy
Richardson and Polk Richardson.
Lonie Richardson Walters and her husband, John Thomas Walters, acquired 294 acres in 1887 and 1900. The Walters
farm served as a stage coach stop between Jasper and Beaumont. John Thomas Walters served as a community leader,
county commissioner and state representative. Lonie and John had nine children. One son, Arcay Polk Walters, and
his wife, Lillie Angeline West Walters, acquired 135 acres in 1929 and 1944. Arcay was a community leader, serving on
school boards and various civic organizations. Arcay and Lillie's five children share ownership of the homestead today
where they continue to make improvements to the land.

Jose Miguel Crisanto Ramirez came from Mier, Mexico to claim his land grant from the King of Spain and
to find better grazing and quality water. The founder's ranch consisted of more than 35,427 acres. Jose temporarily
settled in the area naming it Aguas Nuevas. In 1783, he married Maria Antonia Yzaguirre Ramirez and brought his
family to the area. He built a stone home between 1783 and 1785, which remaines in good condition more than 200
years later.
