Copelands Relate Activities
And Standards Of Japanese
Editor’s note — Although Lubbock
High has no excange students, there
are several students who attended
schools outside the United States last
year. This is the first in a series of
articles on these students.--
“You can’t have a lot of dances
and social activities, but the academic
standards are the same in Japan as
here,” said Clarice Copeland, junior.
Clarice and her brother Mike, sopho-
more, attended Chofu High School
in Tokyo, Japan last year.
According to Clarice, the schools in
Japan are very much like American
schools except for the restrictions on
social activities and “of course, most
of the kids are Japanese,” she added.
Schools in Japan also offer a wide
choice of subjects except in the area
of foreign language. “We are offered
French and Spanish only, no German
or Latin,” explained Clarice.
Naturally, sports are big in Japan
as ererywhere, and that was good for
Mike. He is playing football at LHS
this year and sports are his major
interest.
Clarice lists playing the guitar and
swimming as her hobbies.
The Copelands have lived abroad
QUESTION REVEALS
Ask a folish question, and
you get ...»
During the fist minutes of
pub class, David White was
asked to hang the absentee clip
on the door.
Feeling in- a gay mood, he re-
marked, “None surely is absent
a lot. What’s NONES first
name, anyway?”
“Flying,” came the retort from
across the room.
for three years because Mr. Cope-
land is a Chaplain in the Air Force.
He is now stationed at Rease AFB.
“WIE HEIST ER”
Mrs. Linda King, German teacher,
has her lighter moments in teaching
too. While instructing a first year
class she held up a picture of a stout
little man arid asked one student,
“Wie heist er? (What is his name?”)
The student, misinterpreting her
question answered, “Eh thiest Frau
King.” (That is Mrs. King.)
