Roscoe city
council discusses
future plans
BY KIMBERLY GRAY
Corresponding Reporter
Roscoe City Administrator Cody Thompson started off
the City Council meeting Tuesday night by throwing out
ideas to council members on how to bring more people
to settle in Roscoe. He suggested ways to attract individu-
als to build homes in Roscoe. He also suggested ways to
encourage current residents to improve the appearance of
their property without much cost.
One example was to work with local churches in getting
paint donated and getting together to paint homes.
Thompson said that as a council there were many
“innovative” things they could come up with that might
improve Roscoe and make it more attractive to people
looking for a place to settle.
Mayor Frank Porter said he agreed that they needed to
be “more proactive instead of reactive.”
Thompson concluded by saying that there could be a
lot of good things happen in Roscoe in the next five to six
months.
The council also discussed the recent free concert, street
dance and fireworks show that brought an estimated 1,500
people downtown. It was considered a success overall.
Thompson then updated the council on the progress
of getting construction started on the wastewater facility.
He said plans had been sent to Austin for approval, and
he expected the state to be done looking them over by the
end of August and hoped that the bidding process would
begin in September.
The council discussed tentatively scheduling a bud-
get workshop sometime during the first part of August.
Thompson said there were some things the council needed
to look at, like restructuring some of the fees for services
and for the cemetery.
The few action items on the agenda included approval
