General Dwight D. Eisenhower,
Texts born supreme commander of
the Allied armies, returned to Lon-
don Monday from the continent and
received a tumultous welcome from
the people of the British capital.
It was the first time General Eisen-
hower had been in London since he
followed his armies into France a year
ago.
He became one of six Americans
to receive the freedom of the city, a
ceremony of great pomp and splendor.

spoke with a plea for the same under-
standing in peace that had been
shown in war. If, he said, the wel-
come given him was for the men who
had won the war, he would feel great-
ly pleased.

mander who had led more men into
battle than any other man in history.
The Prime Minister paid General
Eisenhower the compliment of being
the one man whose voice inspired men
