bed. he said, Mrs. Jackson, who had
followed him into the room, fired at
him with the small automatic. She
then turned and ran.

Taylor testified that he was great-
ly excited and badly frightened and
hearing Mr* Jackson'* footstep* be-
lieved that *he had gone to kill Mr*.
Taylor. He ran into the hall and
saw Mr*. Jackson on the stair*.
“She was pointing a gun at me,"
Taylor testified. “I began firing and
fired until 1 saw her hand drop. I
don’t know how many time* I fired.”
Taylor aaid he then laid down hi*
pistol and telephoned for the police
and an ambulance.

exception taken by the defense.

New Road Should b* opened up Hon-
do Valley.
Some time ago a road petition wa*
circulated asking for a road to be
opened from the Yancey road on east
line of Jay E. Adams ranch, at
‘ Round Pens" to the Biry road, a
distance of some three or four miles.
For aome rea*on the road was not 1
granted; or the petitioner* were re-1
ferred hack and asked to make *ome j
change in their petition, according j
to Mr. Hardcaatle, of the Adam*
ranch. Now that the oil fever has
•truck that Miction and oil ng* are
being hauled in and people are going
and coming every day, that road
ought to be opened. There i» no
road running north and *outh, in
thi* section between Black Creek
church and school and the Yancey
neighborhood, a distance of ieven or
eight miles.
