The screaming of the fire siren
about 1:30 o'clock Sunday morning
I ought the fire company, and many
j t wnspeople, very promptly to the
? cFIroy Motor Co. Garage where a
f. a* of unknown origin in the shop
ha<l already attained considerable
h a :wt>v when discovered. Luckily
the building has a concrete floor and
tl e roof and walls are of heavy sheet
iron. This confined the flames and
hea* to a great extent, but the in-
teri >r, which had been jammed with
ears and trucks stored for the night,
was a roaring inferno and the burst-
ing of auto gasoline tanks made it a
stubborn fire to control. j *
The fire boys laid three hose lines, *
however, with remarkable facility *
and with an orderliness ami precision *
that showed efficient training, and *
began to pour water into the scorch- *
| ing flames. With a good pressure *
and an abundance of water, their *
fight soon showed a telling effect *
ami there was no spread of the •
flumes to adjoining buildings. i *
We do not know Mr. Jones’ loss or *
how much his insurance but there *
can be but little salvaged from the , *
j s1 op building, which belongs to him, j •
j < •• its contents. Neither do we know . *
i his plans for reconstruction. j •
; The fire made its way between •
'the ceiling and the roof of Mr.
i Lath’s brick building where it was
exceedingly difficult to extinguish
•nd where considerable damage was
done and where extensive repairs
will have to be made to restore the
building. The insure ee company has
appraised his damage at three thous-
1 and dollars and have settled with
I him on that basis.
I To the efficient work of the fire
hoys in keeping the flames subdued, j
