First Woman Executive
For United Fund Drive
Colleen Parks, Westbury
Area Resident and a young,
dynamic volunteer from Gulf
Oil Company, has been
chosen by her company to be
the first worman account
executive in the Metro
Division of the United Fund
campaign organization.
Colleen is a section chairman
in the Metro division of the
campaign.
“This is the first woman
executive we’ve ever had,"
said Hilda Hall, United Fund
staff member for the Metro
Division, “women have
always been solicitors or
secretaries in the previous
campaigns."
The 75 volunteers in
Coleen’s section were spec-
ially selected to represent
their companies as loaned
executives and solicit 1,200
accounts of business and
industry in the southwest
area. They will call on many
different types of businesses
in the next few weeks, most
of-which have fewer than 35
employees, which makes the
task before the Metro
sections even more chal
lenging. Many smaller
businesses are reluctant to
tal^e time from pressing
work schedules to conduct
an employee campaign and
educate their employees
about the United Fund.
"One of the big problems,"
Colleen stated, "lies in
focusing top management’s
attendtion on the need for
employee education. Smaller
companies may not be able
to afford the time to be fully
educated, but almost every-
one can spent part of his
coffee break to sign a fair
share pledge card and learn
which of the 45 United Fund
agencies are supported by
his donations."
When questioned about
future developments in the
Metro division of the
campaign, Colleen express-
ed a desire for the initiation

of a "trouble Shooting
section." “Hopefully, the
trouble shooters would be
dynamic, interested indivi-
duals and some top execu-
tives who would be out of
their office just a few hours
during the campaign to
stimulate interest in areas
that need priority
attention."
In many ways, performing
as a Metro volunteer in the
United Fund Campaign
necessitates an abundance of
sincerity, patience, and
persistence. Colleen's sec-
tion of the Metro division is
striving to raise its goal of
$184,000. In the next few
weeks, she and the volun-
teers in her section will be
traveling throughout the
Southwest market.
