on the Bellaire Blvd. es-
planade beginning with the
intersection of Bellaire and
ice Avenue, were : Lou
Stolz, ebullient member of
the Bellaire Chamber of
Commerce Board of Direc-
tors; Roger Westrup, Ex-
ecutive Vice President of
the Chamber; Moppy Gay
Chairman of the Flea Mar-
ket Committee of the Cha-
mber, with her Ci-Chalr-
man, Betty James (Mrs. Os-
car) and other members of
the commlttee-Chief of Po-
lice, John Wheatly; Jim
Bryant ( Mr. B) Peter
Whitney, photographer (bus-
ily snapping pics of the cr-
owds); Wiley Beverage, Bel-
ion Director; Danny Ryan
(Chamber member who is
Houston Natural Gas Re-
presentative at the Cham-
ber).
Nancy Westrup (Mrs.
Roger) had a booth with her
gorgeous paintings... Mr. and
Mrs. Gerald Lewis (Bernice
is secretary at the Cham-
ber) were to be seen look-
ing over the acpon.

And action it was, with four
Karate schools demonstrat-
ing Karate in the middle of
the esplanade, also the Gym-
nastics Southwest gave de-
monstrations of student gym-
nastics and trampoline. The
Booster Club of Gymnastics

all bought items at the pop- relatives of students) had a
ular one day market, which booth with home baked goods
drew approximately 9000 and coid drinks ^th parents

Bellaire Library members
at their Used Book Sale bo-
oth-Mrs. Richard Mason,
Mr. and Mrs. Brian Spinks,
Evelyn Vecera (who was a
lookout for the paperback
copy of Steinbeck’s "The
Pearl” for her Strake Jes-
uit student son, only to have
a copy sold right beneath her
nose). Lawrence and Alice
Cowles also worked at ty
book booth, in additim to
Stanley and Cissy Hawks.

Alan and Virginia Newhouse,
Val Thompson, and Bellaire
Jaycees member Jon Terrill
load books for the Friends
Used Book Sale, whichbene-
fltted the Bellaire City Lib-
rary.

Viewing the booths at the
Bellaire Antique Flea Mar-
ket; Gladys and Gary Sum-
mers ( a VP with First
National Bank of Bellaire);
Jackie (Mrs. Charles) Buck,
with her twin sister-Mary
(Mrs. R. L. ) Carpenter
from League City and cou-
sins, Mr. and Mrs. C.E.
Nicholson fromLos Angeles
(who stopped on their way
to Dallas). Jackie, who lives
with her family at 7200West
Loop South Freeway, also
brought Dan and Jeanette
Hales from League City and
cousins, Mr. and Mrs. C. E.
busily selHng all day. Bel-
laire Swim Team, Inc. with
member parents such as
Beverly Van Siclen, (Coun-
cilwoman) sold out of every-
thing in their booth, making
them very happy. Everyone,
in addition to raising funds
for his own organization, was
gratified to kno that the city
was also being benefitted....
One booth, the Basldn-
Robbins Ice Cream Booth of
Mrs. Bunte Hopper, was a
very welcome addition to the
carnival-like atmosphere,
the ice cream was selling
rapidly on the very hot day
....Mrs. Hopper, generously
donated her profits to the
Chamber for the Bellaire
Blvd. Beautification fund.
Two of the boys who work-
ed at the ice cream booth,
Steve Paoli and Norman Allen
donated their pay for their
time spent at the flea mar-
ket, and accompanied Mrs.
Hopper to the Chamber’s
dinner meeting at Braeburn
Country Club, where the ch-
ecks were given to the C

City Librarian, had a very
busy weekend not long ago,
when she entertained her
son-in-law’s relatives, when
they came to Houston for
his graduation. Nelsm
Greeman HI, now Dr.
Greeman, graduated with
honors from thsUniversity
of Houston. He is a Doctor
of Optometry, graduated
Summa Cum Laude, and
won the Outstanding Stud-
ent Plaque (for the third
time!). He also won the
Bausch and Lombe Contact
Lens award - a thousand
dollar check....
Dr. Greeman’s relatives
who came to Houston for
the occasion, included his
grandparents from Okla-
homa, Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Trimble; his parfts and
grandparents from San
Antonio, Dr. and Mrs. Nelson
Greeman I, arid Dr. and Mrs.
Nelson Greeman H. Yes,
that’s right, they are all
optometrists.
Virginia’s daughter, Jan
Greeman, who teaches school
in Spring Branch, helped her
mother with the preparation
and serving of a dinner for
24 persons, that weekend.
