Lamar Favored
Lamar’s speedy Redskins come
to the end of the trail of conquest
tonight and only Milby’s rugged
Buffaloes stand between them and
outright claim to Houston’s Big-
City football championship.
After the long drive down the
stretch, which saw one favorite
after another fall, and one upset
after another, the city title is still
not decided and will not be until
the conclusion of tonight’s game.
The Milby line-up was heavily
strengthened when it was reported
the triple-threat Don Carpenter,
who has been out because of in-
juries the last two weeks, will be
in top shape for the clash tonight.
The Lamar backs, Tommy Jax,
Sandy Sanderson, Sam Hamilton
and Bill Chanslor will have their
job cut out for them and will have
to be at their best for the contest.
Another interesting angle to the
game will be in the way of punt-
ing and punt returns.
Milby’s Don Carpenter and La-
mar’s Bill Chanslor are rated the
city’s best punters. They punt
with distance and are extremely
accurate. The two boys, Carpen-
ter and Chanslor, will also have a
duel in returning the kicks. It

St. Andrew’s Men
Hold Supper Meet
The activities room of the new
St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church
was the scene of the November
dinner meeting of the Men's Club
last Thursday night. Following
an invocation by I)r. James G.
McMurtry, the group of 07 men
served themselves a buffet sup-
per, with baked turkey and
smoked ham as the two main
dishes.
Principal portions of the pro-
gram included a song fest conduct-
ed by Don Robinson and A. B.
Penny, the introduction of Dr.
Malcolm L. Purcell, a talk on the
installation of television and prob-
lems of its use by Bill Johnson of
the Crumpacker Distributing Cor-
poration, and the main address, a
relation of the history of football
broadcasting since 1935 by Mr.
Penny, who is assistant advertis-
ing manager of the Humble Oil
and Refining Company.
Appointed to a nominating com-
mittee to suggest officers for 1949
were J. A. French, L. W. Adams,
C. R. Church, Jack Rimmer and
Paul Thompson.
