Bellaire Firemen Complete Plans For Annual
Dance; Department Described As Boon To City
Bellaire Volunteer Firemen an*
giving residents of the section the
rare opportunity to pay money and
enjoy doing it. The fact was re-
vealed by Fire Chief F. J. Wein-
zel of 4819 Willow in announcing
final plans for the Firemen's An-
nual Hall at the Old Main Street
Dance Hall on Friday, December 3.

two regular nun, Mr. Weintel
pointed out. Proceeds from the
snlc of tickets for the annual
dance at $2 per couple accounts
for most incidental expenses for
the 28-man volunteer department
which acts as a substitute for 18
full-time men. A paid department
would cost an average monthly
salary of $225 for each man or
$18,000 for the year.

sides the low cost to the city bud-
get, Chief Weinzel reminded resi-
dents of the city that Bellaire has
a credit of 25 cents on the insur-
ance dollar—highest credit in the
state and, incidentally, 20 cents
more than that of Houston. He
stated that the present installa-
tion of larger water mains and
the anticipated arrival of anoth-
er fire truck is expected to reduce
the city’s key rate from 51 cents
to 11 cents.
In return for their $2 contribu-
tion to the fire department, Bel-
la! ites (and anyone else who
wishes to come) will be treated to
an evening of dancing, including
a number of folk and square
dances.
Money from dances and rides in
previous years has been used for
such things as short wave radios in
homes of individual members. Part
of this year’s funds will be used
! to maintain the department’s in-
I terest and attendance in the Gulf
(’oast Firemen’s Association,
group formed for the better
j spreading of firefighting informa-
tion.

STOP being ROBBED
OF BIG TIRE MILEAGE!
Do not leave your camera in the
glove compartment of your car. The
beat has ruined many feet of good

Did you know that when evapo-
rated milk is mixed with an equal
amount of water it has the same
food value as bottled milk and may
be used in the same way ?

Mending should be attended to
before clothes arc washed. Un
checked rips and tears grow bigger
and shaggier during the washing
process.

Many people do not know the
principal difference between salad
dressing and mayonnaise. Salad
dressing contains starch, mayon
naise does not.
Wily let these invisible *,steering
wobblies" rob you of thousands of tire
miles? Wobblies, caused by out-of-line
wheels, get into every car sooner or later
through road bumps, curb scuffs, and worn
steering parts. They literally saw the life
out of your tires...cause blowouts and acci-
dents, too! tire savings alone will pay for
the entire cost of this life saving service!
