Sweetwater residents attend
Texas Midwest Day at the Capitol

More than 130 people representing rural cities in the
Texas Midwest region traveled to Austin for “Texas
Midwest Day” on Feb. 3, to honor legislators and demon-
strate a unified voice for rural Texas. Participants from
Sweetwater included Greg Wortham, Ken Becker, Tom
Henderson, Glenn Wortham, Rex Skaggs along with 15
high school students and school officials
Texas Midwest Community Network sponsored its
eighth biennial visit to the State Capitol during the
Legislative Session. Highlights of the day included a
photo session on the steps of the Capitol, a briefing on
regional issues, visits to lawmaker offices and an evening
reception.
“Texas Midwest Day provides a means for community
leaders from our region to be recognized at the State
Capitol and have face to face visits with lawmakers," says
I'MCN President Mike Schweikhard. “Our presence in
Austin helps legislators from our region send a message to
urban lawmakers that concerns about such issues as state
services, tax reform and natural resources have special

Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at
the Jaycees barn, located at
the corner of Fourth and
Cypress Streets. The
Meneses home was recent-
ly heavily damaged in a
fire. The auction will begin
at 7 p.m. and the dance wall
be from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Live music will be per-
formed by country band
Zack Huckabee and the
Texas Honky Tonk Road
Show. There will be a $5
admission charge and a $5
cooler charge. Barbecue
sandwiches will also be
sold. All proceeds will go to
the Meneses Family. For

Crocodile Dock
Adventure
open to public
First United Methodist
Church will be having a
Crocodile Dock Adventure
for children ages toddler
through third grade from
5-6:30 p.m. beginning
Sunday, Feb 8. This activ-
ity is open for all children
in the community.
Children are invited to
participate in a swampland
adventure as they discover
God's amazing light
through wild Bible adven-
tures, cool crafts, wild and
wacky games and swamp
stompin' music.

recalling Creamy Creations
Peanut Brittle Ice Cream,
because it has the potential
I to be contaminated with
Salmonella. The recalled
product contains peanut
products supplied by
Peanut Corporation of
America, which has recently
announced an expansion of
a voluntary recall covering
all peanut products made in
their Blakely, GA plant
since January 1, 2007.
Peanut Corporation of
America is currently the
focus of an ongoing investi-
gation concerning the
recent Salmonella outbreak.
The Creamy Creations
Peanut Brittle Ice Cream
product was seasonal, sold
only during the summer,
and is no longer in stores.
"We are absolutely com-
mitted to food safety. This is
a voluntary and precaution-
ary recall issued in coopera-
tion with the FDA," said

Highland students celebrate 101 days of school
Highland Pre-K and Kindergarten students celebrated 101 days of school Friday by painting their faces black and
white and wearing black and white clothes to look like the 101 Dalmations. The students also ate Oreos for snack
and watched the *‘101 Dalmations" Disney movie. Shown in no particular order are Pre-K students Brentyn
