Hence, there will not be a trustee

(Wyliei area was that they could
request a change to 75094 Postal
Authorities would consider the
request only if all the 75098 resi-
dents in .Murphy requested it
“I’m against changing the Zip."
said one unidentified 75098 resi-
dent “During the last Zip change
in Murphy, several residents had
their utilities shut off due to non-
payment of bills since the utility
companies kept sending the Nils to
Plano (75094) addresses and the
post office reiurned them as not
living in Murphy We don't need
to go through that again ."
"The grid system that Murphy
uses for numbering begins at the
intersection of FM 544 and Mur-
phy Road." said Murphy Police
officials
Residents and businesses east of
Murphy Road on FM 544 would
begin with the 100 block. 210 East
Peter's Colony Road for example,
and continue to Maxwell Creek
where it would revert to West
Kirby Road, which ends with 3700
FM 544 or West Kirbv.
The name change was originally
suggested to eliminate confusion
for area police, ambulance and fire
departments when responding to an
emergency Officials also though)
a name, rather than a number,
would lend an identity to Murphy
In other action, the council
approved the appointment of
Cherte Smith as Presiding Election
Judge for the May I General
Municipal Election for the Ctty of
Murphy with Bob Parham appoint-
ed as Alternate Presiding Judge
The Park Board submitted the
cost summary for the city's new
park in the Timbers sub-division
The cost summary was prepared by
Jones & Boyd, the architects hired
for the planning of the park
The total estimated project cost
is $373,365. Part of this cost would
he paid for via a grant for approxi-
mately $ 175.1XK) from the Texas
Parks and Wildlife Commission
Part of the remainder would
come from a donation to the city
from US Homes several years ago
and the rest of the funding would
come from a park fee levied on
developers.
Council also approved a change
in street sign color to white letter
mg on a green background The
old cokes, orange and white, were
hard to read at night in the gk>w of
the new “old fashioned" street
lights installed in the new develop-
ments, officials said
The existing street signs will he
replaced as money becomes avail-
able. The cost to repaint a street
sign is a few dollars less than the
cost of a new sign, which is
approximately $30. The old signs
will be auctioned off to raise
money for the project
Council also approved an agree
men! to continue dispatch service
currently provided by the Collin
County Sheriffs Office; grant a
variance to the women's club for
their 'A-frame' type signs used to
advertise fund raisers; and
approved the final plat for Daniel
Crossing, Phase A, a planned
development on North Murphv
Road.
Cities agree to interlocal contract
From Page IA
Mondy said. “We did this with the
new Wylie High School." he said
It's not uncommon for small
departments to make this type ol
contract when there is a problem
with low staffing or high volume,
he said
In other business, the council
agreed to the installation of a
Supervisory Control and Data
Acquisition (SCADA) telemetry
system for the city's wastewater
lift stations The SCADA system
will monitor the status of five
wastewater lift stations and provide
24-hour monitoring and alarm
capabilities to detect operating fail-
ures
According to city officials, since
October I. 1998. there have been
33 lift station system failures due
to electrical or mechanical prob-
lems or pump malfunctions
During the past five years.
Wylie has reported 36 sewer by-
passes to the Te*as Natural
Resource Conservation Commis-
sion. A by-pass occurs when a lilt
station failure goes undetected long
enough to result in an overflow of
raw sewage
Through the first five months of
this fiscal year, the city has spent
about $13,500 on lift station
repairs and city crews spend about
16 hours per week physically
inspecting the lift stations
Cost of the SCADA system is
$55,000
"This automated remote moni-
toring will result in significantly
fewer man-hours spent in physical
onsite inspections," information
provided by the public works
department states. "The early
detection and notification of a pos-
sible system failure will also
reduce repair costs and downtime
and virtually eliminate the danger
of a raw sewage by-pass"
The council also:
■ Accepted the Comprehensive
Annual Financial Report from Pat
tillo. Brown <V Hill;
■ Gave final acceptance to the
construction of water and wastewa-
ter mains as part of the 1995 Texas
Community Development Program
grant project.
