To the Board of Control
of Concordia College,
AUSTIN, Texas.
Dear Brethren:
At its last regular meeting the Board of Directors
passed certain resolutions which are aimed at accomplishing some
economy in our Synodical finances. Conditions at the close of the
fiscal year are such that something has to be done. We cannot
possibly run Synod into debt deeper than has happened last year
and therefore must needs curtail the expenditure to some extent.
THE BOARD HAS THEREFORE RESOLVED THAT A 10%
DEDUCTION BE MADE THROUGHOUT THE BUDGET 'FOR
This resolution was of course passed in several
subdivisions, but what I stated here is the gist of the whole.
On my part I was instructed to write to the Boards
of all our institutions and kindly and urgently ask them to keep
expenses down to the minimum and to consider a similar cut in the
salaries of their employees.
We do not say that the rule of the 10% deduction must
be adhered to in every case; if conditions make it absolutely necessary,
an exception to the rule may be made. But as far as possible the de-
duction should be made in all cases. And as to all other expenditures,
you should see to it that only those things are undertaken which cannot be
avoided.
This ruling shall be in force at least until Synod
meets. If Synod sees fit to overrule the Board's decision, well and good,
but the likelihood is that Synod will approve of this action and possibly
even go a step farther. So please help us to save Synod from
grave difficulties.
With best wishes and kind regards,
Yours very truly,
WH:LS Chairman, Co ittee on Buildings
