Mrs. Roy Russell was called to
the bedside of h^r mother Mrs.
Tom Boatright near Plano, the
first of the week. She is suffer-
ing from a stroke of paralysis
and is in a very critical condi-
tion,
Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Duval,
Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Duval and
mother were the guests of Edd
Mayes and family Sunday.
,J. C. Cannon and K. W. Whits
more, Jr.,of Dallas were Carroll
ton visitors Friday of last week.
Settlement of the suit brought
by Fairmount Street property
owners to restrain the Texas
Interurban Co. from construct-
ing tracks on that street between
Wolf street and McKinney aven-
ue as a part of the Denton inter-
urban project, was finally effect-
ed Tuesday after the matter had
passed back and forth through
the Forty Fourth District and
appellate courts for more than a
year. Under terms of the set-
tlement, which are said to remove
all barriers to construction of
the line, which contemplates
electrification of the M. K. A T.
Railway line between Dallas and
Denton, the property owners
waive their right to a rehearing
and toapplication to the Supreme
Court for writ of error over the
appeliate court ruling.
The settlement came at the
instance of Love Field industrial
district business and real estate
interests, which sought the in-
termediary services of the Cham-
ber of Commerce committee
headed by T. M. Cullum. Neither
Jvdge William H. Clark, of the
property owners, counsel, nor
Gilbert H. Irish, representing
the Love Field interests, would
reveal the nature of the consid-
eration to the Fairmount proper-
ty owners, although it was said
that some cash compensation
had figured in the matter. The
property owners, it was pointed
out, do not waive their right to
sue for damages that might grow
out of construction of the line
on that section of the street.
Be Next President
Thos. B. Love of Dallas, long
prominent in Texas .and national
politics, and a close political
observer, thinks ths>- William G.
McAdoo, former Secretary of
the Treasury, will be nominated
by the Democrats and elected
the next President of the United
States.
In discussing the matter Mon-
day, Mr. Love said in part:
“The ‘only things’ that can
prevent a Democratic victory in
1924, will be the ‘nomination of a
wet candidate, a reactionary can-
didate of a sectional candidate.”
In discussing what he termed
the ‘Democratic trend,’ Mr.Love
mentioned the recent elections
in Kentucky and Maryland, say-
ing: ‘Any student of the prog-
ress of American politics knows
that if the Republican party can
not come within 40,000 votes of
carrying either Kentucky or
Maryland a year before the date
of the presidential election, their
doom is sealed.’ ”

The Chronicle has many things
to be thatkful for this year,in
fact we have so many we do not
know where to begin or end, but
know that the giver of all has
been very good to us this year.
We are not only celebrating
Thanksgiving but it is also the
20th birthday of the Carrollton
Chronicle. For twenty year it
has been in your homes arid for
twenty years it has tried to give
you the news of your communi-
ty. It has enjoyed the lean and
the fat years just as the rest of
the community has enjoyed,
them. Looking back among the
files of the past twenty years we
find that a great many changes
have been made in the paper and
in the editors. Again let us say
we are thankful especially so
because of the twenty years
support the Chronicle has beet)
given by you aud your cornmu
nity.
