Building Trades
builds again
By COLLEEN WELSCH
Mr. find Mrs. Emanuel
of Highway 95 are very
excited about their future
party house. Mr. Harris' two
building trades classes are
building this house for their
project this year. Each year
the classes have a special
project to do in which they
work hard.
According to Mr. Harris,
the building will be 1250
square feet, consisting of
two baths and a storage
room at one end and a bar at
the other.
The house shall be very
practical, since it is being
constructed like a three-car
garage. When the house is
not in use, the Emanuels can

park their automobiles in it.
Then when they want to
have a party all they have to
do is remove the cars and
there will be plenty of room
for their guests to dance.
The classes have already
begun on this project, having
started the first of October.
The building is estimated to
be completed around the
first of February.
The classes will be laying
the foundation for the
building, doing all of the
carpentry work, plumbing,
and electrical wiring and also
the hi ii k laying.
The ' building will be
unattached to the main
house and will be made of
brown brick and paneling
which matches the Eman-
uels' house. Mr. Emanuel
commented on the subject
by saying that he is "extra
excited" about his future
party house and he plans to
use it as a garage, playroom,
and family reunion spot for
many years. He concluded in
saying that he is perfectly
satisfied with the boys' work
so far and he is glad that
they will be getting good
experience from this project.

Students learn skills
By TRACY OZMENT
Office Duplicating Prac-
tices is offered at Bastrop
High School to students who
wish to prepare for jobs that
require the operation of
office machines. Students
wishing to take this course of
study are screened by the
teacher, Mrs. Wanda
LaRochelle, before signing
up the class in the spring.
Those students applying for
01)1' must show a sincere
interest in the subject and a
strong desire to learn about
office machines.
The class meets for two
hours each dav and includes
instruction in the use of the
duplicator, folding machine,
binding machine, paper
driller, copy machine, elec-
tronic stencil maker, type-
writer, and calculator. ODP
students have used some of
these machines to make
self designed stationery and

project t his year, the classes
are going to put together a
book of Bastrop's favorite
recipes to be sold in the
spring. Anyone who would
like to contribute recipes to
this book should contact
Mrs. LaRochelle at the high
school.
Some members of the
class will go to a state

next spring. This convention
is for all Vocational Office

those who attend.

Tests, tests, and more
tests! After Thanksgiving
holidays, seniors will return
to yet another exam. This
one is called ASVAB and will
be given November 29: the
Thursday after students
return from the holidays.
The test will take about 2 1 2
hours.
ASVAB stands for Armed
Services Vocational Apti-
tude Battery. It is designed
to give seniors an idea in
which area of work their
aptitude lies - such as
mechanics, electronics, or
clerical work. In other
words, it helps students to
be more sure of the skills
they possess.
