ant to s call of Chief Tom Matcnett
there was a meeting of the Brenham fire
department at the city nail Monday
night which wss well attended.
Chief Matchett stated that the object
of the meeting was to decide whether or
not the department would have the Mat-
fest this Sjear or not. and to take auch
steps as were necessary If they were
going to have It.
By a unahnoui vote of the department
It was decided to have the Malfest and
a meeting of the department Is to be held
every Monday night at the hall for tha
purpose of the committees conferring
about the progress of It and arranging
the details.
Chief Matchatt reported that all the
outstanding notes agatnst the department
had ben taken up. most of which were
donated and that the department was
now out of debt. A committee consisting
of Green Morgan. William Wendt and Ed
8c h mid was appointed to draft resolu-
tions thanking the cltlaens for the dona-
tions. Mayor Lusk addressed the gathering
congratulating the department on the
showing made and pledged his hearty1
co-operation tn every legitimate way.
Ki Mayor Wtlklns moved that a vote
of thanks be extended the chief and the
motion prevailed unanimously.
On motion the following committee was
appointed for1 the purpose of suggesting
committees on the various details of the

of the department getting out of debt.

dence of Mr. Jay Van Lyne manager
for the Towns! te company corner Aus-
tin and Lake Shore drive. Mr. Van Tyne
has been In Holland soma time attending
to Important matters pertaining ta the
Townslte company which Is represented
In Holland by a large majority. This
building was held up awaiting develop-
ments and aa the construction Is or-
dered. It is supposed that the business
has been satisfactorily arranged and the
Townslte company will put a large num-
ber of choice lots on the market which
are now In demand
City politics wax warmer and there will
be an Independent ticket against the cltl-
aens' ticket as nominated several days
ago. The candidates have not as yet an-
nounced but will In few days. All can-
didates are given until March M to make
their applications for space on the ticket.
At a meeting of the council last night
a petition to reconsider the appointment
