DOCTORS WORK
Closing Session Productive of Some
Interesting Debate.
HOUSTON THE WINNER
Physicians by Unanimous Vote
. Have Decided to Meet Here
Again in December Next.
The adjourned session of the South
Texas Medical association was called to
order yesterday morning at 10 o'clock by
President Moore. The morning aession
lasted until U o'clock during which time
the papers prepared In the gynecology
isectlon wore read and discusaed. The
aubjeot selected by Dr. R. T. Morris ot
this city was "Repair of Primary Per-
ennial Lacerations."
"The Vaginal Route in Pelvic Surgery"
was the subject of the paper read by Or.
O. L. Noraworthy.
After the conclusion of the two paper
the meeting adjourned until 1 o'clock.
afternoon" session.
When the afternoon aession was called
to order but few of the visiting delegates
wen present. After calling for the re-
mainder of the papers and receiving ao
response the minutes of the last meet-
ing which waa held In Galveston Uat
September were read by Secretary Ham-
ilton. After the conclusion of the read-
ing of the minutes the reorganisation ot
the association was discussed.
Dr. Knox was the first to take the floor.
Dr. Knox centered his remarks upon Jef-
ferson county which had not been In-
cluded In the new limits of the organisa-
tion. He suggested a petition to the
State association to redlstrlct the Nlntn
district and add Jefferson county. He
wanted Jefferson county an honorary
member of the association for the present
at least. Dr. Knox paid a high tribute
to Jefferson county tor its past efforts
In behalf of the association and for the
cordial treatment which had always been
accorded the visiting delegates In Beau-
mont. After the conclusion of the talk made
by Dr. Knox the call waa made for Dr.
Calhoun of Beaumont.
Dr. Calhoun who waa Absent at tho
first day's aession. at which the resolu-
tion waa pasaed aa were other members
from Jefferson county didn't approve of
the action of the association while he
had no objection to tbe organisation of a
district association he thought that there
should be no diaruptlun of the South
Texas association. He thought that the
members could uphold both the South
Texas and the dlairtct association and ex-
pressed his disapproval of the dissolving:
of the former. He aa well aa many cC
the other members of the association
leved the former organisation and Its'
dissolution waa greaily regretted. He
ended hia talk by aaylng: "I regret to
say that I am no longer a member of the
South Texas Medical association."
Dr. Moore aald in part: "I appreciate
Dr. Knox'a atatement. Beaumont Or-
ange Victoria and Cuero are four good
towns and the loss will bar deeply re-
gretted. There Is no one who regrets
more to loee them than myaelf but I
think It la for the good of the district
nnd the State association that district
associations be formed." Dr. Moore dis-
cussed the Uueation at length.
Dr. Boott then dlacussed the question.
Dr. Calhoun then took the floor again.
"I believe" said he "that the proper
thing to do is to continue the South
Texaa Medical aaaociatton and also to or-
ganise the district associations but hold
together the South Texaa association with
all old members." Dr. Calhoun made
this aa a motion whereupon President
Moore ruled the motion- out of order.
"I believe If we did this It would give
the aiwoclatlon the blackeat eye possible"
said Dr. Moore.
Houston aoaTn honored.
Dr. Scott then made a motion to have
appointed a committee composed of five
members of the association for the pur-
pose of getting together the largest at-
tendance possible at the next meeting ot
the association and also to create senti-
ment among the new members.
At this juncture Dr. Calhoun continued
the discussion of the reorganisation ask-
ing the president whether the meeting
would adjourn as the South Texaa Med-
ical association or the Ninth District as-
sociation. He then contended that the organisa-
tion would continue as the South Texaa
association. Dr. Moore ruled this motion
out of order. Dr. Scott then Questioned
the president's right to so rule.
President Moore aald: "1 rule that.thf
resolution as presented In Galveston and
coming up in due form and passed as It
was at the meeting yesterday can not
be reconsidered unless members who
voted for Its passage st the meeting yes-
terday make the motion and It receive a
second."
After further discussion Dr. Moore stat-
ed that technically every memlxr In the
society whether In the new territory or
out would be a member of the society
for the remainder of the present yenr
after which those members In counties
not Included In the Ninth district would
no longer be members of the association.
Dr. Scott then questioned the chnlr re-
garding the selection of a place for the
next meeting of the association and being
Informed that the motion was In order
he named Houston for the next place and
ts "lection waa made unanimous.
Dr. Knox then made a motion that the
president and secretary with some other
member of the association whom the two
might select act as the program commit-
tee for the next meeting. The motion car-
ried. Dr. Knox then made a motion to ap-
point the chairmen and secretaries for
the different sections for the next meet-
ing. It waa left with the president to
make the appointments.
Dr. Moore then addressed the meeting

THREE LINK MEN
ODD FELLOWS PAY TRI-
BUTE TO THEIR DEAD.
Graves of Their Departed Are
Being Cleared and Decked
with Flowers.
"This la s most solemn time of the year
among Odd Fellows" stated Dr. J. C.
Beebe yesterday to a Post representative.
"This week committees ot Odd Fellows
and Rebekahs are visiting all the ceme-
teries and clearnlg the graves of their
dead and by next Sunday every grave
will be as clean of weeds as the floor and
then they will be decked with flowers."
While talking the doctor produced an
Iron headpiece which Is placed on the
grave of every deceased Odd Fellow and
Rebekah. These are placed on all graves
and a new supply is ordered each year
for the new graves. Each headpiece
bears the hand pointing upward the
palm holding a heart. These headpieces
are provided with receptables for small
flSgs and thla week while the gravea are
being cleared off a flag la placed on
each grave in order that they can be
easily found next Sunday.
The members of the order will meet at
Odd Fellows hall next Sunday morning
at I o'clock and after a brluf service
different committees will visit the differ-
ent cemeteries carrying with them loads
of flowers to bedeck and beautify the
gravea of the departed. In the afternoon
the membera will meet again at the hall
and wilt march In a body to the First
Christian church where appropriate serv-
ices will be conducted. This service will
begin at 3 o'clock and the principal ud-
dress will be delivered by I'astor Hander-
sun. Others will deliver addresaes also
and quite an exlenaive program will be
rendered.
Dr. Beebe Is an enthuelastlo Odd Fel-
low having devoted thirty-five yeara of
his life to the order and he takes a great
interest In everything pertaining to the
order. He stated yeaterday that It ia tho
hope that within the next few yeura tho
Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of this city
will own a beautlfei burying ground.
There Is a move on foot already with that
end In view and a number of sites have
been Investigated.
In the decoration of the graves the
members do not confine their work of
love to tho gravea of those who were
members of the local lodges hut the
gravea of all Odd Fellows and Rebekahs
are decorated. It Is the same In all cities
and thus on Decoration Itay the grave
of every departed Odd Fellow and Re-
bekah in the United States la remembered.
