OIL WILL BE USED
In Effort to Lay the Dust on Hartii-
burg Boad.
Thd proposition made tha city several
weeks ago by the Texas company to
sprinkle It shell street with a special
road oil containing a large amount of
macadam for the purpose of settling thO
dust has been accepted and the plan will
be given a trial on the Harrlsburg road
next Monday by Consulting Engineer F.
L Dormant
The precaution that will be used In the
experiment Is an oil with a very heavy
macadam base. It ia claimed that when
the oil has been sprinkled over the sur-
face of the road and allowed to penetrate
a couples of inches it' forms a hard
binder or erust which hold the dust and
prevents it from being disturbed and sent
flying over the country by the wheel of
If the experiment provea a eucce the
city will use this oil 6n many ' of its
shell streets. The resident of the house
along these street which are particularly
dusty will welcome this move as th
dust that Is sent drifting In clouds Into
their homes during the summer month.
1 on of the most disagreeable feature
that they have to put up with.
The binder is manufactured by th
Texas company and It contain about
80 per cent of asphalt roidain.
