and would have gone lower but for messages
ftom prominent Liverpool operators in which
the view waa taken that a satisfactory settle-
ment of the dispute would be arrived at before
the lockout would be in effect.

NEW ORLEANS September 19. With re-
ceipts of rough on a much broader scale over
thb week end and with prospects of a heavy
movement daring the course of the week under
the favorable harvesting conditions reported
fiom almost all sections of the belt the mar-
ket showed a distinctly easier tinge and the
lower grades were hard to place except tt con-
cesricnt. The choicer lott commtnded ttten-
tknt and found an outlet at 1.45 but this
seemed the outside price. Quite a number of
lota were carried over for future consideration.
The market for clean ruled atesdy. but there
wat. scarcely the briskness in the inquiry no-
ticeable during the closing dsys of the week.
Official prices were Unchanged.
Receipta by local mills were BUS sacks.
Receipt from country mills were IBM
pockets.

market today showed nothing to clearly aa the
insistent determination of the- speculation to
mark time and to await events. An opening
decline In pricea disc loser tome buying demand
at' the lower level which wat diversely at-
tributed to supporting orders by those interest's
el in the properties tnd to tn uncovered short
interest. The latter supposition wss given
color bv the incretsed borrowing demand in the
loan department at the stock exchange where
money was loaned below the market rate for
the sake of securing the desired stock for de-
livery on contract sale.
Bonds were irregular: total (ales par value
