Dr.
Jacobs Had to Come Back to
Houston to Find Copy of
Trade Editon.
Dr. William States Jacobs had a hard
time getting a copy of the Trade Edition
of The Post two weeks ago. He left New
York on September 3 which was before
the Trade Edition arrived there and he
arrived in New Orleans on the 8th. "I
went to a news stand on Canal street"
says the minister relating the Incident
"the place where I always buy my Post
when I am in New Orleans.
"Have you a copy of The Houston Post
Trade Edition?" I asked the man. "Wish
I had a million" he said. "They were all
sold out the first day." I went across the
street to another news stand and asked
the same question of the man there.
"I've had at least a hundred calls for
that paper since I sold my last copy three
days ago" this news dealer said.
So Dr. Jacobs had to wait until ho
reached Houston to see the big Post.
FIRE BUKUED ENGINE HOUSE.
Plant of G. L Glass Destroyed and
Home Was Threatened.
Water and sand were- used effectively
by the members of the family of Tax
Collector George L. Glass yesterday
morning In extinguishing a Are which
started in the engine room and threat-
ened to destroy his home.
The residence of Mr. Glass is situated
one block south of the Harrisburg road
and a short distance outside of the city
limits.
The engine room Is in a small building
constructed In the rear of the residence
and contains a gasoline engine which
is used to lift water from an artesian
well to a high tank from which the
supply of the house is obtained.
About 8 o'clock yesterday morning
members of the family entered the en-
gine room and started the engine and
a short time afterward while the family
was at breakfast the Are was discov-
ered. While a telephone message was being
sent into the Central fire station re-
questing that the automobile chemical
be sent but members of the ' family
worked with buckets and sand to prevent
the flames from spreading to the resi-
dent's. By the time the chemical ar-
rived the Are was under control.
