"After hours of vigilant work watch-
ing the bridge across th Atchafalaya
river during the present flood a watqner
fell asleep at the bridge house with one
foot across the trsok. He 'did not believe
that any train would dare to attempt to
pass the bridge In its present condition
without a signal from lilm. 'A freight
train did however severing hia leg from
his body and otherwise injuring him. It
Is not believed that Tripleet will recover.

sons are belleVed to have been killed In
a series of tornadoes which swept across
parts of Illinois and Indiana just before
nghtfall today.
Twelve deatha have been confirmed and
five are reported on authority which ap-
pear reliable.
. - A hundred other persons were Injured
at least eight of them so severely they
may die. Damage dono to property will
amount to thousands qf dollars. (TH
storm swept through the northern part
of Murphysboro. 111. seriously Injuring
Mrs. George King sod two daughter and
Mr. and Mrs. William Wllderback. No
deaths were reported. Houses were de-
molished at Murphysboro. -
House Fell on Family.
At Beddlck III. many building wer
destroyed and Nelnon Hulse his Wlf and
daughter wre killed and two pther chil-
dren probably fatally Injured when their
house fell on them. Several other wer
