ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The members of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church
wish to express their appreciation to all of those who
have helped to make this cook book possible--the
friends who sent in recipes, those who supported it
by buying advertising, those who wished us success
with contributions of money and those who have helped
us in the planning and compiling this book.
Special thanks go to Mrs. John Gillett of Alpine,
Texas, who gave us the benefit of the experience
gained when the Auxiliary of St. James' Episcopal
Church of Alpine produced a similar book. Thanks
to Dr. Eugene Porter, Professor of History at Texas
Western College, who helped greatly in compiling the
historical sketch of El Paso . . . Thanks to Major
General Sam C. Russell, Commander of Fort Bliss,
for permitting us to quote from the booklet "The
Second Hundred Years", giving the history of the
military installations in and around El Paso .... Thanks
to Carl Hertzog of Texas Western College, for his
suggestions on compiling our book . . . Thanks to the
El Paso Chamber of Commerce for the picture on the
cover of our book . . . Thanks to Chris Fox of the State
National Bank for suggesting the title . . . and very
special thanks to our Mexican friends from our "Sister
City", Juarez, Mexico, for their recipes of Mexican
dishes and to the merchants of Juarez who sponsored
our book by buying advertising from us.
We request that our readers patronize all of the mer-
chants who bought advertising from us, for, without
the help of our wonderful friends, we never could
have succeeded.
