reached here. Russian cavalrymen are
now upon the crests of the Carpathian
mountains.
A dispatch to the Haras agency from
Petrograd say that the strong Austrian
forts at Nicolaieff and Mfkolajqw sit-
uated in Galicia. about 25 miles south-
west of Lemberg were captured by the
Russians September 6.
The Austrian fortifications at Klcao-
laieff which have been captured by the
Russians have enormous strategic 1m
