THOUGHTLESS FLOODING.
Right Way to Get sn Inrichsd Mixture
for Starting.
'How seldom one sees a private owner
start his engine with tho switch off.
though the professional driver very often
adopts this procedure' when hjs motor Is
cold." says Chester 8. RJcker in the
American Motorist "The average owner
floods his carburetor or pulls the choke
switches on. and presses the starter but-
ton ineffectually nve or six times. Then
he opens the bonnet perhaps floods the
carburetor again and at last gets an ex-
plosion. "It Is obvious that the Idea of flooding
the carburetor Is to obtain a temporarily
enriched mixture but the value of the
flooding is lost If It be done when the
cylinders and Induction pipe are full of
mixture any petrol vapor left In this
over night having long since evaporated.
If the engine be turned over a few tlmas
with the switch off the sir Is expelled.

Building for
the
Future
v It is strangely a fact that many successful
business men overlook the first principles of busi-
ness when buying a motor car. The foundation
of good merchandise is scientific manufacture.
The foundation of scientific manufacture is man-
ufacturing experience.
When your possessions ' are threatened you
go to' a lawyer. When your health is threatened
you go to a doctor.
Any 'man with sufficient money can go into
the open market buy motors frames wheels etc.
slap them together give the result a name and
call himself an automobile manufacturer.
The Studebakers have been building vehicles
for more than half a century. Surely they are
building for the future. Surely they are content
with a small profit that their merchandise in it-
self may prove such an exceptional value that it
will enable them to build for the future.
The Studebaker Four at $940 and the Studebaker
Six at $1180 f. o. b. Detroit offer more actual value
for your money than competition because they are built
for the future.
