FUNSTON REPORTED SITUATION
UNCHANGED AL0NG BORDER
Dispatches Indicated That Co-Operation
Is Being Given Uy
Carranza.
(Aiscciattd Press Report.) .
' WASHINGTON March 2S.-War de
partment advices from General Funaton
today and tonight were meager and show-
ed no change in th actuation along the
border or In Mexico. General Pershing'
report reaching here through preas dis-
patches that Villa had escaped from a
Mexican force near Namiqulpa and was
being pursued southward by American
cavalrymen had not been received when
the department closed.
Interest centered tonight In the action
that may result from the conference of
senate republicans tomorrow as to the
situation along the border. Unofficial ad-
vices still reflected uneasiness In Ameri-
can border towns over vague reports of
concentration of Mexican troops near the
line.
Press reports from General Pershing's
headquarters bear out the opinion held
by officials here as to the co- operation be-
ing given In the pursuit of Villa by Car-
ran a troops. Since the 'messages are
censored at the front officers said it was
certain they reflected General Pershing's
views based on actual Information of
what Is going on In the rugged ebuntry
where he Is operating.
Advices tonight from Mexico City that
General Carransa was carting the atten-
tion of hla officials by special order to the
section of treaty of 184 providing for ar
bltratlon of disputes between the United
States and Mexico aroused much Interest
here. The section referred to provides
for "mutual representations and pacific
negotiations" In the first Instance and
failing an agreement that "A resort
ball not be had to reprisals aggression
or hostilities of any kind until the
grieved party shall have determined
whether the matter Is one for arbitra-
tion .T commissioners representing both
Ides and those named by a neutral na-
tion." It was thought possible that General
Carranxa. was calling attention to this
provision In order to assure his country-
men that permission for the use of Mex-
ican railroads by American forces In pur-
suit of Vlllew could be granted with pro-
