TILLMAN PITCHED VELL BUT LOST
Sage Held Buffs to Three Hits and No Runs While an Error
GIANTS RESTED THEN OFF AGAIN

TookTwelftK Straight Alter. Day of Idleness' Beating Gn-
- cmnatt 4 to i; on Keds Home dround. . '-
Texas Leapue.
Tlllmaff went down 1 to 0 before the
league- leader- yesterday (but he lost
nothing In the eyes of Buffalo fan when
he did so. He pitched' a handsome game
.- from start to flnlah andintil the ninth
inning allowed only five scattered hits
- no two of them in the same inning. The
tun which Waco put over In the third
Inning ws due. to Northen'a muff after
two were down. The other tally came In
the ninth and was. earned by two clean
hits.."- ''.' v;; r'y
In his three games the new twlrler has
allowed -ntal of 10 hits and three runs.
What stood between the Buffs and vic-
tory yesterday was George Sage and the
clean fielding bunch behind him. 'The
Navigator twirler allowed only one hit up
to the ninth InniiTg. . With two down in
the ninth be was tapped for a.palr of
bingles. bringing the total to three one
more than his club mate Donalds al-
lowed the Buffs the day before.
Bittle was again cavorting in left gar-
den and made a pair of pretty running
catches. - His work showed up the bright-
er as the Buff outfield was working a
little .loose. ' In addition to Northen's
muff the right fielder let Conwell's hit
get by him in the sixth going for two
bases when it might have been held to
a single and Lee let the same thing hap-
pen twice in loft. However neither drew
errors for the slips as the balls were
hard hit.
Newnam made one of the prettiest
stops seen at West End in many moons
when he knocked down Reilly's hard
drive down first base line in the fifth.
It was a lunging stab that brought the
Buff leader to the ground but he brought
the ball with him and threw Rellly out
at first Tillman covering in the nick of
time. - "
- Waco's first score' came 'In the third
Inning when Coyle doubled after two
were down. Conwell drove a hard one to
right which Northen got hold of as he
came into it on the run but dropped it.
Coyle had left the second sack at the
crack of the bat and counted without
trouble. . ' - .-. t-:
Jenkins gave his team mates a wide
opening to get U back when second up
in (he Buff half of the inning he lifted
a triple to deep center. Tillman and
Lee could only ground out to the infield.
- eonwell's double in the ninth when he
led off for Waco paved the way for the
second score. He went to third on James'
infield out and scored when Tanner laid
down a bunt along first base line. --
A momentary vision of a . spectacular
finish flashed up after two Buffs had
gone out in the ninth. Selts and Frier-
son singled but there the rally died.
