BUFFALOES REGAIN LEAD AS FORT WORTH IS STOPPED
it.
. I : . :
Reinhart Holds Panthers
To Four Scattered Hits;
Buffs Pound Out Victory
Four Straight Hits in Second
Inning Account for Quar-
tet of Runs Enough to
Win Final Contest
Jakey Ate and bis undomesticated fe-
line were wilder than even the tnot
rabid cut of the South American jungles
at Wet Bad park yesterday afternoon
but all to avail. Young Mr. Rcin-
hart held tbers to four scattered hits
and but for a misunderstanding between
Ntelibaur and Meuse in the fourth in-
ning would? have shut them out. Aa
It waa the Huffs came out with the
long end of a 5 to 1 score and ooied back
Into first place.
. The Buff a underwent an operation for
I the removal of their batting slump ilur-
I ing tbe ftuaday rest and came out yes-
' terday with their duties well glued on
A. Kan kin Johnson's slipper; ones. Kindt
hits were collected five run wire
scored four of then anted and busi-
ness was generally good at.thf Houston
end-of the horn. O'Brien's muff of l.ar-
more's long fly in the second inning al-
lowed an extra run to trickle in al-
though Menze was roosting on third and
would have scored easily after the rafrh.
Four hits and O'Brien's mistake ar-
rminted for four of the Buff runs in this
inning two of the hits being infield af-
fairs by Walker and Meuzr.
Several Side Attractioat.
Exclusive of the advertised attraction
other things of moment transpired in the
courae of the entertainment. Clarence
Kraft who hadn't been chased nut of a
game this year yelped vehemently on a
third strike hurled his bat at the stand
and was promptly chased to the large
space beyond the confines of the park by
bis nib. That is. lie was ordered to go.
It required the persuasion of a pair of
blue coated guardians of the coinuiuuity
peace to remove the obstinate guest
whereat .la key Atz expostulated violently
und aaid a few things about some um-
pires of his acquaintance not considered
complimentary. The fans were surprised
that Miller suffered Jake to remain but
the strain of Johnson's pitihinif was
considered and the 1'anther leader re-
mained with us. lie exploded periodically
during the remainder of the contest but i
nothing serious resulted from his pertur-
bation. Although the ground was muddy an
hour before the game. Old Sol slipped out
of the bluckuess and warmed up the in-
field enough to evaporate some of the
more pronounced water boles and make a
. game possible. The ground was in ex-
cellent shape at the end of the third
inning and some brilliant fielding plays
were pulled that might have been im-
possible under ordinary circumstances.
Walker furnished two of the most spec-
taaular one when he chased over cen-
- terward and robbed Stow of what ap-
peared to be a clean hit and another when
he sat down in a puddle of water and
nabbed O'Brien's low fly. O'Brien shag-
ged Lamorc's tall fly to the far left field
. precincts in the seventh and pulled down
what appeared to be a certain three base
hit. Sears shagged over to the foul line
to rob Stellhaur of a third blow and Stow
pulled 'Mel tnnnld's pop out of danger
after splashing through a young lake be-
tween shortstop and left field.
Throughout the afternoon the work of
Arthur Keinhart our newly acquired cit-
izen was the stellar feature. Exclusive
of his feat of allowing the Panthers only
four hits the new southpaw whiffed a
quartet of cats and permitted huge bun-
dles of pop ups when men were roosting
on the paths. His control was better
than has been the wont of Buffalo pitch-
era this sprinc. his curve ball was break
ing great and he bad a hop on his fast
one that kept young Glenn Myatt busy
reaching about for it. All told the new
southpaw's debut was most promising and
with bim to help along tbe pitching staff
the Buffs should worry.
Scored la Second.
i The scoring started in the second Inning
and continued until four runs had been
obtained. Snedecor singled past Stow.
Walker got an infield single when Prpe
' negieetea to cover tirst. Menze bunted
and beat it out filling the bases. Myatt
shot a clean single between first and
second scoring Snedecor and Walker
item n art wanted but Doyle walked fill
ing tbe bases. I.armore raised a huge
fly into right center. The ball made for
the barrier with O'Brien in full cry a
leap and a half in the rear. The Pan
ther centerfielder eventually overtook the
drive but allowed it to bounce out of his
- banda and Menze and Mvatt connte!
McDonald flew out to O'Brien. The Buffs
concluded their scoring In the third. Stell
baur led off with a double. Snedecor
lofted to O Brien. Walker drove a clean
i single to center scoring Stellbaur. Menze
hit into a double play Johnson to I'epe
iu mwono enuing me inning.
The Panthers scored in the fourth. Ha-
worth singled and O'Brien rolled out
Reinhart to Snedecor. Atz lifted a fly to
center which Menze and Stellbaur
gathered about and watched drop to the
i ground. Haworth went to third on the
1 hit. Haley started one oa-er second that
j was ticketed hit but Larmore inter-
cepted and tossed Atz out at second Ha-
worth scored. Moore fanned ending the
1 1'anther scoring.
. The Shreveport Oassers come Tuesday
.'afternoon with their well known crew of
wreckers. Bryan Harris will probably
adorn the mound for the Buffs with Ver-
' bout aa the Uasser cLjiee.

. Something happened in Louisville Ky Saturday night excluaive of he pro-
cedure of paying off racing debts something that attracta no little interest in. Hous-
ton and something that indicates aa our friend the enemy would have ua iVlieve
that two men have been molded Into one. . - '
We refer td tbe wrestling match between Wladek Zbyszko and Joe SteAer
ataged la the city of the Kentucky Derby and the Kentucky colonels the maUh
which Joe Btecher won light handily in an hour and thirty minutes or a trifle more.
n inning a match in an hour and thirty minutes might not sound hapdy but when
the enonnoue etrength of Zbyszko is taken into consideration and the necessity of
conquering R; is dwelt upon the time is quite remarkable Anyway it's much better
than Btrangler Lewis wss able to do in a trio of 'attempts.
It wag stated that it would require two men to throw Zbyszko after his match
hers. Obviously Stecher had no assistance In his wrangle 'with Zby at Ixmisvelle.
He tossed him for a single fall and may now be regarded as the legitimate cham-
pion unless Earl Caddock decide to come back. Stecher is popular a wonderful
athlete and an American. He has always been regarded even by those interests
friendly to Zbyszko and his manager Jack Curley as the best man on the mat today
and his victory over the giant Pole fulfills tbe prophecy that he would eventually
be the title bolder. .
All of which has a certain bearing on a match to be staged in Houston
some time in June. The Gulf Coast club has wired J. C. "Ole" Marsh man-
ager of Marin Plestiua. that the club will put Plestina on with Stecher Lewia
Caddock Zbyszko or Pesek or any one else who may care to take on the
match within the next month. Plestina through his manager has accepted
and la ready to stake $23000 as an evidence of good faith. Plestina will allow
the Gulf Coast club to pick bis opponent and will ask' no questions. All
Plestina wants is to wrestle to get a crack at the crown and particularly
some of the wrestlers whom he has included in his "trust" accusations.
There ia grounds for Plestina' "trust" charges all directed at Jack Curley and
his ilk. Plestina charges that he has been barred from clubs throughout the country
because Curley will not allow his "fixed" men to wrestle him. It is true Plestina
has been without' matches despite the fact that he hasn't been defeated in IS
months. It was alleged that Joe Stecher made a monkey of him. Yet the two
wrestled two hours without a fall and Stecher never got behind the giant Serbian.
This isn't dope it is straight information divulged by none other than Clarence
Kkltind who was at the ringsidr when the bout was staged.
Kkiund by the way. is a great admirer of Plestina. He says he is easily the beat
of the present day crop of big fellows with the possible exception of Stecher. Be-
tween theae men. Clarence can see no difference although be credits Stecher with
more speed. Plestina is a buge powerful fellow stocky on the order of Zbyszko
but cleaner muscled antl more supple. In his first matches in this country he fell
into bad hands was defeated several times and became an outcast. Then he was
taken over by Farmer Burns developed into a crafty speedy grappler with a reper-
toire of holds second to no one. Since that time he has defeated every man who
ever beat bim with the exception of Stecher. Bill Hokoff was mentioned as one of
the men who beat Plestina yet he beat Hokoff Jater two falls in 21 minutes in
.uason lty ia. tie also neat Lewis two falls in 40 minutes at Lexington Ky.. yet
these thinga have never been told thanks to th.e efforts of the men accused by
Plestina and Marsh of forming a "trust."
Trust or no trust Jack Curley or Davy Jones himself the Gulf Coast
club is going to give Plestina a chance to meet Stecher provided Joe will
wrestle. The club is through listening to the dictates of Curley on the big
fellows. It is through following his lines on who this wrestler and that
wrestler can meet and remain within the bounds of "trust" territory. Not
that the Curley clique has ever completely dominated the Gulf Coast people
but the Eastej-n impresario has dabbled in affairs here refused to meet '
Plestina or to let Zbyszko meet Plestina and otherwise' took a prominent'
part in the shows staged here. All this has been underneath not for .the gaze
of the public but it has been going on and the Gulf Coast dub to give the
fans of Houston a look at the big fellows has been obliged to stand for it
But those gaya are gone. Thinga happened on the occasion of .Ctuley'a last visit
here which completely reversed the tables. The Gulf Coast club has come oat to give
a capable deserving wrestler the chance he has wanted. When a dub which has been
a level and above board as the Gulf Coast offers Plestina a match where can the
Curley crowd go next to flash its "crooked" stuff ? The Gulf Coast club has been
operating foirtalIy three years. In that time it has not been sponsor for a
show with th slightest trace of crooked work. It has not countenanced n fu'ke.
has not deliberately or unwittingly pawned a false article hff on its' loyal fans. With
the Gulf Coast club behind Plestina challenging any or all of the big fellows to try
conclusions with bim. where is the wrestling trust's resource? They mar have one
but when they show it. it must be gilt-edged and waterproof else there will be one
lfss "trust" in these United States. i
