alters schedules
Some of the most unique aspects of
college life are the chaotic schedules
maintained by many students. While
most NTSU students went to class
during the day, partied in the evening
and slept at night, there were some
student employees that did just the op-
posite.
Linda Wood, a senior RTVF major,
was one of these student employees.
Wood had been the Maple Street Hall
night desk clerk since August 1985.
She was considered a full time NTSU
employee because she worked 40 hours
a week -- midnight to 8 am, five days a
week.
This work schedule seemed like a
nightmare to most people, and Wood
admitted her job was not easy. "It's
real hard," Wood said. "The reason
it's so hard, is because I have to sleep
during the day when everyone else is so
active."
Another difficulty Wood encoun-
tered was with class scheduling. Wood
found only 9 hours that would fit into
her Spring schedule. Because of such
scheduling problems, she had to delay
graduation.
The benefits to Wood were obvious
also. She was provided with all state
employee benefits, including health in-
surance. She also found time to study
while at work. "It would be hard to
find another full time job with some
study time. Most of the time, by 3 or 4
in the morning, I can study. I don't
think I'd ever take the night job again,
but the benefits for me are great."Stacey Magee
